Found elsewhere at $160-$250 this is a much sought-after oily and rich single malt whisky which has been double matured in sweet Pedro-Ximenez sherry casks.

Tasting Notes
Begins with sweetness, and ends with peat, smoke and hints of seaweed. Incredibly long finish even by Lagavulin standards, smooth and rounded, with waves of sandy dryness.

About the Distillery
Above all, Islay means peat. Miles and miles of peat bog in the west of the island, provide the raw material whose influence so characterises the south eastern Islay malts, of which Lagavulin is perhaps best known. Lagavulin’s rich peaty water runs down the brown burn to the distillery from the Solan Lochs in the hills above the distillery.

Lagavulin Distillery was established in 1816 by John Johnston on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. In 1908 Malt Mill Distillery was built next to Lagavulin Distillery but it closed in 1960 and although some of its buildings remain Malt Mill is now a lost distillery. Lagavulin is a malt whisky distillery which welcomes visitors at the Lagavulin visitor centre and offers distillery tours and participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music, and sponsors the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.

    • Does that include import taxes and duty?

Nope. Which is why I included a local option at the same price.

        • Importing it from Whisky Exchange at the current exchange rate @1.49, plus duties (5%), shipping to AU, tarrifs ($72.46/L), taxes (GST), it'll be ~$163 AUD. People forget all the taxes and duty associated with importing alcohol from overseas.

You can save money on spirits buying them overseas, but usually only the bottles that cost >$150 locally. Even then the savings are negligible. With a great exchange rate you might be able to save up to 15%. But usually any bottle under $150 locally will always be cheaper to buy here.

  • Out of stock. Only 13% discount too & still cheaper to ship from overseas.. Meh..

$117 plus Customs duty will be more than $129.95… if Customs are paying attention.

If your bottle get through without the attentions of Customs, we agree, $117 is a sharp price!

this is a good price for what I have heard is a great whiskey…
I've been hanging out to buy this.
the classic lagavulin 16 y/o is one of, if not my favorite isley malts, and the 12 y/o cask strength is up there too - but I have never got around to getting a bottle of this… hmmm

I got an email from woolworths this week saying the 16 y/o is $77 at dan murphy's with a code…
