Extra 50% on The Buy-Back Value for Pre-Loved IKEA Furniture @ IKEA (Free Family Membership Required)

730

Right now we are offering more money if you are an IKEA Family member. Make sure you have signed up as an IKEA Family member before you come to the store if you want the IKEA Family offer.

How Buy-back works

  • Determine what you want to resell. Only unmodified, completely assembled second hand IKEA furniture is accepted for buyback. Refer to the lists of eligible/ineligible products below. For ineligible items, consider reuse, donation, selling via online marketplaces or recycling.
  • Use the buy-back estimator tool. Find what IKEA furniture you’re interested in selling and tell us its condition. You’ll get an estimate of what IKEA will pay to buy back your furniture.
  • Make sure your furniture is clean and assembled, ready for its new home. Bring it and your estimate to the Exchange and Returns section of your nearest IKEA store.
  • Pat yourself on the back. You’re helping us prolong product life, promote second hand furniture and waste less. Thanks for contributing to making IKEA more circular and to becoming people and planet positive!
  • Your IKEA Refund card can be used in any Australian IKEA store, or on IKEA.com.au. Your refund card is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

We are looking for…

  • Unmodified, completely assembled, clean IKEA products
  • Chest of drawers
  • Office chairs and desks
  • Bedside tables
  • Display cabinets
  • Sideboards
  • Bookcases and shelf units
  • Sofas and armchairs
  • Office storage

  • Cabinets
  • Dining tables and chairs
  • And more

Would probably cost more renting a trailer /Van for a couch, cupboard etc .

I have a small chair i found during council clean up. They are offering $30. Why not

    • Yes I had similar, took it to ikea and they did not accept it. This is what they said “It has some wear-tear, we cannot resell it”. Interestingly I did mention it while quote that chair has some wear-tear. But, you can try, let us know how it goes!

Found lots of things on Gumtree selling for a fair bit less then the price IKEA will pay. Good arbitrage opportunity for the true Ozbargainers with a trailer.

It's weird that Ikea actually pays more than the second-hand market is ready to pay. Recently tried to sell an Ikea chair on FB Marketplace and got lowballed hard, got offers around $50. Ended up going to Ikea and getting a $100 for the chair.

      • -1

people just try it on, its ridiculous.

      • +1

Found this can be the case with CeX too. Their trade in prices can be higher than any offer I'd get from potential buyers

      • +7

Well it's in the form of credit so goes back into IKEA on your next purchase, pretty smart actually

        • +7

Nobody mentioned that, good to know

          • @Meconium: Can you buy using the credit and refund for cash?

      • +2

I suppose when it's an IKEA product sold in an Ikea store, with a return policy, there is value added there. They're also assessed by staff and come assembled so less chance you're stuck with a dodgy item you can't return. I personally hate how much I get dicked around buying shit on marketplace.

And for IKEA, it would bring customers to the store, and as it's a voucher there's a high chance they're spending more than the amount that's on their vouchers.

Bring your assembled, unmodified and clean furniture to your preferred IKEA store, together with your estimate. Your estimate is valid for 30 days from creation date. The final Buy-back value is subject to evaluation of your furniture by IKEA co-worker. If you decide to sell the furniture back to us, we will provide you the value in the form of an IKEA refund card. Tip: Avoid traffic and longer waiting times by visiting us on a weekday.

Love a deal that involves decluttering, just so I have more space for more deals and even more clutter!

Ts and Cs and paraphrasing: The 50% extra buyback value estimate offer runs until 19 May, and is valid only for products brought in before 9th June.

Use the store credit to buy food, frozen too.

I returned a (street found) office chair and got $79 for it a couple of months back. RRP is $99. Does that mean I would have received $118.50 if this offer existed then :-)

    • Now for this deal, they will offer you $50 and tell you $75 plus 50% value. People will be happy with that as well.

Had taken the pain to to try and avail the buyback for a sofa once. There are lots of ifs and buts to the buyback. Be aware that there is no guarantee that they will take it back. To add to it, they make you feel like scum trying to get some many for used furniture. Ended up taking the sofa back home as they deemed it ineligible for buyback since the fabric was slightly stained somewhere

  • I’m selling Bekant Desk 140x60 on Marketplace and Gumtree and people are messaging me with offers much less than my asking price and then I found this deal here. Now, I know what’s going on.

Just have a "Price is Firm" on first and last line of ad and ignore any queries you get from the people who can't read.

      • +1

People just simply can't read on FB. You'll be ignoring 100% of your buyers.

      • I wish I could do that but I do answer stupid questions at times, have to sell them and can't be dick to everyone. I did manage to sell 8 though.

  • Thank you OzBargain. Sounds good deal to me. I bought a couch 2 years back for $500 and its current price in IKEA website is $1000. They are ready to offer $550 for minor scratches. Only catch is they provide IKEA credit.

    • Think of all the hotdogs

      • You can't use Giftcards for food :-)

        • +1

You can if you have the correct type of IKEA refund card.

I have seen two different types of IKEA refund cards:

          1. A plastic one that comes with no PIN on the back. It says on the back excluding the IKEA Restaurant, Bistro, and Swedish Food Market.

          2. A paper one that comes with a PIN on the back and merely tells you to go to www.IKEA.com.au/terms to read the terms and conditions of the card. If you go there, you will see under clause 3 for that it only says IKEA Refund cards can be used as full or partial payment on purchases in all Australian IKEA stores. No mention of excluding food purchases.

I have not been given a type (1) return card via the buy-back service for over a year, so there is a very good chance that if you use the buy-back service, you will be given a type (2) return card.

I used a type (2) refund card to pay for a meal at the IKEA restaurant a few months ago. I had to hand the refund card to the staff member, who swiped it on their terminal and punched in the PIN on the back of the card.

          • @WookieMonster: Ah ok, Mine are all plastic cards and including most recent from a couple of months back. Never seen the paper ones. All cards are from "Buy Backs"

            • @Borg: There is a chance that the plastic refund cards can be now used for food purchases, because the overall IKEA refund card terms and conditions on the website used to specifically exclude food purchases, but the terms on the website no longer says this. I am not sure whether this is true though, because the only IKEA refund cards I have now are the paper ones.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Hundreds of $1 Hotdogs and Ice Creams are one the menu so. Next time I am there will give it a go. Thanks for noting this, perhaps it has changed.

  • Can anyone work out why there are duplicates of the same item(s)(like exact size and colour combinations) but with different offer prices eg. Finnby black bookshelf has two listings with $50 and $40 for the same 'as-new' condition.

    • +1

My guess is the admin got distracted while adding the new $40 listing, and forgot to delete the old $50 one.

  • +1

Does anyone know if they give you the store credit immediately? Ikea is quite a drive from me and I'd like to drop off, collect credit and use it in the same trip

    • +2

Yes. They give it to you in a physical refund card last time I did this.

  • Thanks OP! Had a TV bench that's surplus to needs. Had it on gumtree and was hoping for $80 and no takers. Saw your deal and got $151.20 in store credit. Can also confirm the credit received can be used in the restaurant. You will need to hand over the card for the cashier to swipe on their system and not the EFTPOS terminal.

    • How was your experience with the staff inspecting the items? How did they determine the level of wear and tear for the right payment?

      • I was paid based on the 'well used' condition which is the lowest of three. As new is just over $200, I was happy with the 'well used' given it does have some wear and tear marks/scratches as you would expect from a 5 or 6 year old furniture.

Inspection was a 2 minute job, a chap wheeled it inside and they looked at it and that was it. Payment processed on the spot.

        • Thanks!

        • On all my visits to Sydney Tempe store…….a person came out, gave a quick once over but never a really close inspection. Always got what I set it for if min marks I set for as new! Worst case they can downgrade but best set your price high :-)

          • @Borg: I went to ryde.
I set for as new but Chair all scratched up.
The guy wasnt interested in inspecting it and approved on the spot lol.

  • Returned a desk, got paid $95 and they slapped a $63 sticker on it and put it out for sale!

    • You should have bought it and then rotate back to Buy Back counter for another $95 :-).

      • Haha I thought it was a good little hack to make some money returning and rebuying something you actually want to keep 😂
