Correct Way to Stop a Microwave with Mechanical Dial

What's the right way to stop microwave cooking that has mechanical dial timer without a stop button ?

Any risk on stopping it by opening the door straightaway ?

Just open the door. It's a microwave, not a sensitive scientific device with exacting procedures.

    • I think we can safely assume due to their account being created on the 3rd March 2011, that they are at least 12 years old so should be able to figure this out by that age.

      • I was actually thinking that OP could be in the three-digit range to own one of those things! haha

Correct Way to Stop a Microwave with Mechanical Dial

Hey Google, turn off the microwave…

If you open the door straight away without it burning you, then it's fine. If it burns you, not so fine.

I'd still buy a new microwave because who the hell knows with whatever 1980s Russian microwave you have.

Throw it out your hotel window into the pool like a real rockstar.

Run to the electrical mains and shut it down before the timer reaches zero.

    • Better off if you wait for the sine wave to hit the zero crossing for maximum effectiveness

You've made a commitment with that dial and need to see it through to its completion. We all have to live with the consequences of our actions.

  • If there was a large risk from just opening the door I would like to think it would be locked like a front load washing machine, until the microwaves were stopped by the timer back to 0 either manually or just timed out.

Why would i even bother asking if there is a manual available that answers my question.

I've never used a mechanical dial microwave before and i ain't gonna buy a new 1 to replace someone's else airbnb microwave.

Is it too much awareness to be alert on abruptly pulling open a kitchen appliance that's running with magnetron ?

So much smartass dhead trolling fulltime in forum. Tough crowd.

Some smartass gonna suggest get a 5 star hotel next time and don't be cheap. FFS this is Ozbargain!

      • Mech dial Microwaves are pretty foolproof!
Any which way will stop and door can safely be opened anytime.
Run it empty and the magnetron will suffer premature wear.
Leaving a copy of a manual is pretty well standard practise in every Airbnb. They are usually found on the net.
NB: Sice the early days of computer forums the expression rtfm is coined to save time and call lazy people refusing to read a manual trollers.
