Any motorbike mechanics (official/unofficial) on here?

I've got a Kawasaki ZZR 250 that needs some TLC to get it back on the road.
I had an accident on it last year and had it repaired but due to non-use it's no longer starting.

I tried a couple months ago to get it going which it did but couldn't keep it running (new fuel pump, oil and filter - didn't have the guts to clean the carbs).

If anyone's willing to give it a shot I don't mind paying (not professional mechanic rates of course that's why I'm posting here).

I'm in the Lidcombe area of Sydney.
Not expecting a heap of replies but I thought it might be worth asking.
Please also no comments saying to just go to a shop (I would if I could afford it right now).

Thanks.

  • New spark plugs? Just a guess, wouldn't hurt.

  • Months of disuse, I'd be thinking stale/dirty fuel.

Drain the tank, lines & carbs & put some fresh high octane in there…no E10…then combined with m0nkeycheese's sensible suggestion of new plugs you should be firing on all cylinders! ;)

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I'm still kinda new to this so I might need to do a bit more YouTubing before I'm really confident to work on it further.

    • do u know where is choke on this bike, try push this bike and continue with manual start.

  • Battery fully charged?
    Got spark?
Drop a squirt of fuel down the carbs to see if it fires. If so you just need to clean the carbs out.
Dump the fuel if it smells at all stale.

  • My money is on blocked carbs. I had a ZZR600 that sat for about a year and it wouldn't run properly until I pulled the carbs down completely and cleaned everything out. Old fuel tends to leave a crappy residue that blocks the passages.

  • Thanks everyone who commented.
My thoughts were along with turbodude.
I did a bit of research and tried a bunch of stuff before which is how I managed to get it running for about 5 mins. It eventually died again though so I'll probably have to get a mechanic to double check and clean the carbs if need be.
