Where to buy Macbook Pro/Air 13"?

Hi, I've been waiting for the past few months for the 2011 Macbook prices to fall after introduction of the newer model but it really hasn't.

I am after a 13" macbook pro or air doesn't matter. 2011 or 2012 doesn't matter. Just need good value that is around the $1000 mark.

I have decided to buy a 13" 2011 Pro off Dick Smith on payday( Next wednesday) and thought I'd get your suggestions before making the rush and later banging my head.

Cheers All.

  • How much is the 13" 2011 pro at dick smith? Because the brand new 2012 model with the 40% faster intel hd 4000 graphics is $1229 with education discount. I'd personally get the latest and greatest for $200 or so more.

    Good luck with your purchase.

The 13" 2011 MacBook Pro is $1189.15 at Dick Smith, if you know a staff member, get 5% off, you'd be looking at ~$1130. But as FrederickHandel said, get them to price match Apple's education price and if you know someone who can get you a discount, the new model would be ~$1170. For $40 I think you're far better to get the 2012 model. (you do get faster RAM as well, not that it will make that much difference)

    Good luck

    • I know someone who works at woolies so their card can give me the discount But how does One price match with the apple's education prices? Just give them the link and dicksmith will price match? I'll go with 2012 model if i can get it for that price. thanks

      • Just go in and ask them to match Apples Education price (on the Apple website). They should do it for you, especially if you need to get office, or a bag, or AppleCare as well. Don't forget, your friend needs to be with you with their staff card so you can use it.

  • If you're not fussy about getting it brand spanking new, you can always get a refurbished one. The latest model is generally cheaper than you can get it anywhere else. I got my Macbook Pro 2 years ago this way (when it was the current model) - combined with buckscoop cashback, I got about 300 bucks off. I can't tell the difference - it literally does look brand new and it does come with the same warranty as a brand new one as well.

The page is: http://store.apple.com/au/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbo… and they used to update it around noon-ish each day, when I was looking 2 years ago.

It's the education store for a particular university who have negotiated the best prices; no checks are run to see whether you're a student, and they don't check such things when needing a repair or anything like that after purchase either.

I myself bought my Mac 13" Air from that particular education portal, no issues at all. It's buying it directly from apple, after-all.

Used TinyUrl to stop the associated url's from added attention from added web-searches, and the loop-hole being identified and patched up.

IF you're not buying a BTO model (mine was an i7, 8GB, 256GB, not a standard config stocked by most stores) then it's cheaper to wait for a 10% off mac sale at Myer, DSE, JB-HiFi, etc.
