Alternatives to Colgate Floss?

Hi Ozbargain community,

It's such a first world problem but Colgate has changed their floss recently and the new one is awful. It's thinner and more plasticy than the original version and no longer great to use. Hopefully, they revert it soon with all the review bombs on product review they've received.

Has anyone got any good alternatives from other brands?

Thanks!

  • There's stacks of brands of floss and they're just a few dollars each. Best thing to do is just to buy a few and figure out which one works the best for you.

    Oral-B Satin Tape.

It's a bit thicker than normal floss so it doesn't ever break (in my experience) and it doesn't tend to twist as easily and become very sharp to the point where it shreds your gums. The material glides over teeth better than the thinner floss tapes and it's regularly on special.

It's also made in Ireland and not China like the majority of them.

    What about water picks?

  • I find these ones are the best

  • Consider trying silk floss. No plastic or chemicals. You will probably need to increase your floss budget though.

love piksters, sure its way more expensive, but i was so sick of constantly snapping (not sure if its just my teeth too close together or what…) - it also has a nice scraper built in too as sometimes i cant floss right up to the bit i want to clean without cutting into the gum…

the oral-b satin tape as per @Gnostikos is alright too

    • Yeah I like these things too. The handle gives you more leverage than my sausage fingers ever could.

I just use the regular Oral B floss.

Works well enough. But for $2, I may try the Oral-B Satin Tape recommended above.

    • I've always thought this is way superior to Colgate floss. Feels like it can scrape your teeth a lot better than Colgate's floss does.

  • Oral-B Glide Advanced Multi-Protection Floss, 6-pack

get them at costco for around 25 bucks

  • Misses G-string should do it, your choice used or new!

  • I use the Oral B branded ones. As long as the floss gets rid of the junk in my mouth I'm fine lol.
