Where to Fly to to Make The Best Use of Qantas Points

Tried to search a number of destinations from Sydney to London, Rome, or Dubai etc and none has business class as classic rewards flights, not even next year. Just wondering where do you guys travel to using QFF points on business class? I would like to make the most of points and travel somewhere far (9hr flight+) on business class. Dont think a 3hr flight business to south east asia is worth the points spend. Has aNyone done a points analysis comparison they can share.

  • So how many points do you have? And where are you flying from and to? Are you willing to plunk down some cash on a positioning flight to SE Asia (e.g. SIN or CGK)?

    • Sorry, forgot to add. flying from Sydney. The number of points i have is not limiting factor. Willing to get more points.
Am willing to plunk some cash on positioning flights if it means cheaper overall business class.
My ultimate destinations are either europe, america, americas, scandanavia.. Thanks

        europe……scandanavia

Is there a Scandinavia not in Europe I'm unaware of?

      • Suggest you fly to SIN and then hunt for AY awards…

You could always try for a OneWorld award too…

Reward seat availability has always been very challenging, especially in premium cabins, on popular routes and/or during peak periods. Note that availability has changed as described in https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/redeem-qantas-poi…

In the past, Qantas released its international Classic Flight Rewards in a staggered pattern that favoured members with Gold or higher status:
Post-pandemic, the system appears to have changed from scheduled daily releases to irregular batch releases such as the February 2023 mass release of reward seats. Other recent batch releases of reward seats on Qantas flights have worked in a similar way but were not as widely publicised.
This system makes it easier for all members to access reward seats in premium cabins, sometimes even during the busier travel months. However, it’s less predictable.

You can keep checking manually, or use a service like ExpertFlyer if you are super keen.

I've had reasonable success with Southeast Asia business class reward flights (plus a couple of points upgrades), although have to be somewhat flexible with the dates and routes that become available. Also far more rare Japan, Canada and US reward flights.

You might get from Darwin to Denpasar within three hours. But you aren't getting from Sydney to Darwin in three hours.

Business class is particularly useful for the overnight Qantas flights from Southeast Asia back to Australia.

  • How many seats? Which city? Which month? These all affect the scarce availability there is.

Importantly, you plan your holiday around the flights you get and rarely the other way round.

  • Award Flight Assist currently displays a banner: Due to a current lack of award availability, we are temporarily unable to accept requests for: Travel between Australia and Europe up to October 2023 using Qantas points; Bookings for 3 passengers or more in Business Class using Qantas points
