Worth Buying a Switch for New Zelda - TOTK

I was able to play Zelda BOTW on Cemu and later also got a used Wii U with the game.

It was a genuinely great game.

Is it worth buying a switch just to play the new Zelda?

I'm 6 hours into the game.

The game is similar to botw in terms of mechanics and gameplay. There is more of a story.

It is like getting to play BOTW for the first time again… IMO it is better overall than BOTW.

I think the answer to the question is another question. Knowing how good BOTW was, would you recommend someone buy a switch if it was their only option to play it?

  • If you like BOTW and prefer to play portable then buy a Switch. I can’t say much about CEMU as I only play emulators for retro games not new ones.

    • BOTW on Cemu was the Wii U version.

There are now switch emus around but you need a $3000 pc yo use them.

It's still quite a bit of effort getting the going isn't it? I looked into it once and figured it'll be less drama to (eventually) buy another switch.

Yeah it definitely is. Particularly using the tilt sensor in the mobile phone for puzzles.

But was worth it in some ways as I could use cheat codes 😂.

At full RRP I would not recommend buying a Switch just for the game. If there ever comes a deal like Switch OLED for $370 again like November last year then go for it.

    Yes.

100% yes. Just get a second hand switch and sell it again after if the only game that you REALLY want to play is TOTK.

Honestly though it's amazing. It's genuinely improved upon BOTW in so many ways.

  • IMO yes - but I'm a massive Zelda fan. I think though, relatively objectively, the game is fantastic. I mostly avoid open-world games these days as they are largely quantity over quality shovelware - but the quality in TotK is there in spades. I don't think you'd regret it if you have the cash spare. And as mentioned above, you could just sell it afterwards to recoup some of the cost of the experience.

As a side note - I have twice bought consoles specifically to play games. The PS3 for Uncharted and PS4 for… well… also Uncharted. I would have bought a PS5 to play GoW: Ragnarok if it didn't have a PS4 release.

  • I'm playing on an emulator currently. Recent updates to the Emu's means it's very playable on a mid range system.

I have a Nitro 5 Laptop with a 1650. I get a fairly consistent 30fps. Occasional frame drops when shaders are loading. It's not perfect but very much fully playable.
