This is true, I had a Commuter case for my Nexus One and the exterior plastic split on the sides after a few months use which is not good considering the amount of money i forked out for it.
Do yourself a favour and buy the Otterbox Defender case instead, the plastic is the inside layer and the rubber is on the outside so the above doesn't happen (I had a one on my Nokia e72 and it was indestructible)
OTB products come with 1 year warranty,
Just be mindful if you bought it on eBay from asia, 90% of them are fake

The Commuter series kinda sucked - I had the Desire HD and the SGS2 version and they both offered very little grip for the outer plastic casing…

Comon run something similar for the HTC ONE X/XL.
If you buy the ottetbox from store and kept receipt, you can try contact otterbox for replacement. I've done that for my iphone and they sent me the new case via airmail. Just follow the claim instruction on their website

Yes, the iluv flip cases are sh&t, thats why they don't sell and we had to clear them for $6
I used to be a huge fan of otterbox but found that after 6 months or so their plastic casing would start cracking. Unacceptable for a fairly expensive case…
