I have been monitoring this, has been at this price ($40 voucher) for the last 1.5 weeks? Waiting for it to get back under $100

    • No Idea! You could be right…

I picked up one of these (Happrun 9500L) when $97.49, as an upgrade to a now old Blitzwolf VP1 Pro (720P).

It's great for under $100, and even at $129.99 it's a pretty good deal.

Keep in mind at this price it's nowhere near as good as a proper full size projector, and there are many compromises you have to accept. But with that in mind, the results for the price are great. I use mine for watching movies on a houseboat, as well as outdoor movie nights at home, in parts, doing karaoke etc.

It uses about 70W, and is AC only, so I run it from a battery power station when needed. I plug a laptop or Chromecast into it, and connect that to speakers via Bluetooth or cable. I don't use the inbuilt speakers or other features and have not tested them.

It is actually 1080P - though I didn't personally count every pixel.

    Things to note.

It needs a properly dark room for daytime use, but otherwise is only good for night use. Colour reproduction is ok (but nothing amazing), and contrast is good enough that dark movies are watchable. But bright, colourful TV or movies look best. It's much worse than my big projector or TV, but still very watchable.

It's good on a 100" screen, but over that starts to get a little dim IMO. Bright video like cartoons etc do ok up to 200". The 100" screen included is ok, but nothing special.

It's mildly noisy if you are sitting right next to it.

The inbuilt speakers are not good.

Focus in finicky, and the keystone correction is best avoided as it results in uneven focus. So you ideally have to mount it pointing directly at the center of the screen - not off angle at all. Some fine tuning of the focus is needed, but the corners of the picture will never get super sharp. You don't really notice when watching a movie. It has a tripod mount, so that is a decent way to mount it outdoors.

Mine was fine, but based on other reviews, QC isn't amazing, so some have debris in the lens system that shows up on the screen. So project a white image and check it.

      Nice review!

Based on this and the comments from the previous deal, I have to skip.

    • How's the BT audio timing? I tried with a JBL Flip 3 and there was tiny bit of delay, maybe 50ms to 100ms. Just enough to annoy me. Haven't tried with any other speakers yet.

      • +1

I have not tested it sorry. I connect the Chromecast or laptop directly to a Bluetooth speaker, rather than using the projectors Bluetooth.

Many Bluetooth speakers have a noticeable amount of delay themselves. I use the Anker Soundcore Motion+, which is one of the best when it comes to low delay.

    • thanks for the info, especially the 'AC only' detail which is usually difficult determine. AC only is a big downside for me. Not quite a deal breaker but not far off.

      • This one is compact, but not really intended to be a portable projector as such. Anything you get in this price range that has a built in battery is likely going to be terrible resolution (480p native or worse) and probably quite dim too so won't be able to project very far or large.

Coincidentally this was posted today if you want something decent, the Wemax Dice linked in the comments looks pretty good too at the deal price it was.

      • Yeah a DC input would be great. The teardowns I have seen of such projectors appear to use 12V internally, but the LED itself can be a different voltage.

At some point I plan to open up my VP1 Pro as it needs a clean inside, and I will check the exact voltages. The goal is to replace the AC PSU, and set it up to run on drill batteries. It uses about 55W, so twin 18V 4Ah batteries should do 2 hours.

USB-C input would be nice, but probably not worth the effort.

    • Yes, that one is 800 x 480 resolution, and based on the small external PSU, will be give a much dimmer image.

      • oh ok, my bad ! thanks

  • This https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B094H6CPPP at $99 lighting deal is possibly better. Not as small in form and possibly a little bit louder when at full brightness but very good image.

    • Have you tried it? No blurry corners? Decent focusing, ie. no need to put it in certain distance from the screen? I guess keystone correction is digital?

Too bad the person who reviewed it in comments only put Rick and Morty on. Such a "great" reference for colours and movement…

      • +1

It's not so much the distance, but the angle. If you go off centre and need to use keystone adjustment (not digital on this one) that's when you'll tend to get focus issues. Distance will determine your screen size (they are usually around 1.3 ratio. so need a bit of room if you want a really large image)

      • +1

A bit of blur with keystone but good when direct. Tearing is the biggest issue.

    • That's $99 most of the time, goes back up to $129 every now and again.

It's a T10, same as a Blitzwolf VP14 but without WiFi so check out this review (a Wifi version is available for $129.99)

I haven't tried it but looks like an OK projector at the $100 mark, though I didn't like the idea of only 60hz support (and seems could have possible tearing issues)

I got the Happrun also @ $97.49, though not much more to add to what Prong said. No dust or pixel issues. Comparing to my VP6 to compare to, Happrun fan is much quieter, VP6 is a bit brighter, not as compact. 75W vs 130W power draw.

      • Yup tearing is a problem and it is noisy. Brightness is good. Surprised you're replacing your vp6 with this one. What about image quality?

        • +1

Nah not replacing, just got the Happrun for the kids to use in another room, maybe some outdoor cinema. Might even take camping one day, they'd get a kick out of watching a big screen movie in the bush :)

The Happrun image is quite acceptable for $100, the VP6 yeh is maybe a little better (though did cost me double). Just the fan in the VP6 I find very loud. Thinking about swapping out for a Noctua and letting it run a little warmer unless I can baffle the sound somehow.

Comparing to my VP6 to compare to

(and now I've just noticed I must have been changing my comment and forgot to fix it up, it's gonna bother me :D )

  • Recently purchased this projector after hearing good things about it in a YouTube video comparing a dozen of these cheap projectors. A decent upgrade from a cheap 720p projector.

It is worth mentioning that the first one I received had some sort of dead pixel, the second one somehow went missing in the post, lucky the third time around..

  • I have this exact projector, had no issues with it at all

  • This is currently going for $99.99 with a $70 off voucher.

    • +1

$97.49 for me, with a $30 voucher. It's a god deal for that (either) price.

      • Yeh thats what I bought it for last month too. The price on this thing is like a yoyo, basically don't pay more than $100 for it, just wait a few days for the price to come around again.
