[NSW] Find out if You (or Loved One) Have an Unclaimed Money Portion of $500,000,000 @ Revenue NSW

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Not quite a regular deal but just got this e-mail… might help someone find some back of sofa cash from the more than $500 million in unclaimed money held by the NSW government.

Revenue NSW holds unclaimed money from accounts held in NSW. ‘Unclaimed money’ includes:-

  • more than $100 in an account that has been inactive for at least 6 years
  • any amount of trust money under the Property Stock and Business Agents Act 2002 that has been held for more than 2 years
  • any amount of money held in a trust account of a legal firm
  • money held in a deceased person’s name
  • certain kinds of superannuation – businesses and public sector superannuation funds send information to Revenue NSW about money owed to people they can’t find.

You can search for, and claim, your lost money online through the Revenue NSW website.

You must be able to prove you are the rightful owner of the unclaimed money held by Revenue NSW.

Most people don't know about it. Sure, it's gonna help a few.

But it's not a deal in the normal spirit of ozb

670 clicks. I think it should stay.

  • Claiming your unclaimed money from Revenue NSW is a bargain?

    • +1

Isn't getting 'free' money the ultimate bargain after all?

  • Whats the most someone has found someone is owed? I randonly searched briefly and found $8k in someones accont and $4k for uni fees overpayment

  • checked and i have one with the same name as me for 3500, is it worth trying to claim? what happens to it if no one claims it?

    • +1

Seems like a no brainer to attempt a claim. If it's a valid claim then that's a nice bonus. If not, no harm done.

    • Is it you ? Just having "the same name" isn't enough to make a claim for obvious reasons. you can't just get money intended for someone else lol.

I checked in the past and zilch

  • Wow! Who implemented this site? Search for anyone's name and get their full address. Could possibly do with just the post code.

    • there are overseas registered addresses as well 🙈

    • yeah what the hell?

So if I have money owed then you can find my actual FULL address based solely on my name.

How is that not a huge data breach?

  • Hard to recover an old account my mum made like 30 years back before stuff was computerized. We sent a request with no replies from anz

  • The search is not working, maybe too many people :/

Thank you OP, just found $570!!

    • That's great! Glad it was helpful reminder.

  • Part of me kept thinking the email is a phishing attempt by hackers from Optus/Medibank/Latitude incidents.
