Budget Laptop Deal - any good? Toshiba C850 $390 inc postage

Comments

  • Main processor (Intel Celeron) is dated and memory (2Gb) is on the low side. However in my opinion, this computer would be quite adequate for surfing the net and word processing etc. Not suitable as a gaming computer playing the latest games (integrated graphics and slow processor). The prices is fair if you understand the limitations of the computer.

    • The Celeron B820 processor is not dated, it was only released in July 2012. But being a Celeron, it is relatively low powered as it's designed for the budget market. It is also based on Sandy Bridge technology (as there are no Ivy Bridge based Celerons yet)…

For a budget laptop it seems OK, but with only 2GB RAM, it's better to go with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 (if not already installed).

  • Also consider this option: ($19 delivery) $368 total
    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/b2y19pa-bonus-memory-b2y…

It comes with more (6GB) RAM, but with a penalty to it's CPU speed (100mhz). But this isn't a huge difference (not that you'd notice in everyday computing)

So there's a $22 dollar difference and the differences are:

HP has 6GB of RAM , but no USB 3.0
Toshiba has USB 3.0, but a painfully small amount of RAM.

Bought my Toshiba off this bloke when I spilled coffee on my brand new Toshiba bought from DSE and when my son wouldn't give me back my lovely Sony Vaio back lol
This is alright for a budget laptop, 4gbRam, no problems or issues so far, you can pay him extra to upgrade it even more, and the bloke will allow pickups and give you a good cash discount for pickups - item has ended but contact him and he will relist - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toshiba-Satellite-C660-15-6-LED-D… - Toshiba Satellite C660 15.6" LED Dual Core Intel T3500 2.1Ghz 4GB 320Gb BT DVDRW $389 — possibly get it for $350cash if you ask him nicely ;-)

    • You got ripped off. Sorry. That Toshiba is a Core 2 based Celeron laptop (T3500), which is slow and ancient as. I wouldn't pay more than $200 for it.

      • $200 are you for real? I would love for you to show me where you could get something like that then for $200 or even close. Its BRAND NEW by the way not 2nd hand which is what I would expect for $200 LMAO

        • You can buy a laptop that uses a much more energy efficient and more powerful Sandy Bridge based processor for the same price, even less, as I have provided in the link. It makes no sense to pay the same amount for a laptop that is three years old.

Its BRAND NEW by the way not 2nd hand

There's more to a laptop than just it's condition. This laptop is not new — it's old tech.
Yeah, it's "New" because it's unused, but also ancient because it has been sitting in the warehouse for way too long. Nobody would buy it because the specifications are too low end and it's also overpriced.

By your logic, would you buy a NEW and Unused Commodore 64 for $594? Because that's how much it costs "new". Of course not — computers depreciate over time, regardless of whether they get used or not.

        • A Commodore 64? no point continuing this convo how ridiculous.
