I Am So Sorry, Please Forgive Me for Not Posting an Amazing Deal

Every once in a while I search for exotic items to see how prices are moving over time, or for any clear-outs of stock or incorrect pricing, and a few days ago I ran into something that was surely a price-error, although for an item you guys probably wouldn't be interested in…

The item was Tork heavy duty cleaning cloths, normally around $160-$240 for a carton of 5 packs, but selling at $18 a carton… I initially purchased 2 to see if it was a pricing error, but the 2 were sent, and arrived… I wanted to test the waters as I didn't want to post a deal where it gets cancelled because it was a pricing error, or only a single pack out of the carton is sent…

If you haven't used Tork cloths, you don't know what you are missing. These are the ultimate in cleaning cloths, leaving behind any paper towel you can buy in a supermarket. Until you try them you won't know how well they absorb water and dirt, how strong they are. How well they clean over and over again. Just amazing, though hugely expensive.

Anyway, now knowing that the dream deal came through, I was going to post the deal, but I wondered if it was worthy as the stock levels might have been low… Fortunately I was able to check because once I added 5 to the cart it would not allow me to order any more, letting me know that no more are available…

So instead of posting, I purchased the last 5 . I received a free Dispenser and purchased a magnetic kit so that the dispenser sits on a metal surface like a fridge really securely.

I am weighing up the guilt of not posting vs the fact that there were only 7 cartons in stock, as well as the fact that people on OzBargain haven't ever used Tork cleaning cloths, so wouldn't appreciate the product for what it is.

Results of Poll & Conclusion

On balancing the poll and commentary, I am thankful that I have not only been forgiven, but my actions have been overwhelmingly seen as the right thing to do.
Thankyou everyone for your support.

    Back in stock!

  • Why don't you try to be more sustainable and use rags from old clothes and then throw it in the was to reuse until the wear out?

    • +1

I use old rags, but they don't compare to the cleaning power, absorption and general usability of Tork.

When using these, I am careful to re-use. ie, after I use it around the kitchen I'll then keep it to re-use on dirtier jobs like bathrooms before throwing away. Also, a single sheet is enough for a few uses, unlike paper towels where you have to use many sheets and still need more.

    I forgive you. 😔

It's recommended to post deals with 10 or more in the rules, your deal probably would have been moved to the insufficient quantity thread anyway.

    • That's also what I was thinking at the time, so it would have only gone to the same few that lurk in that thread. It eased my mind knowing that when I made the purchase for the remaining stock.

      • +2

You know your encouraged to post in that thread.

posting a deal with more stock higher chance rapid influx of orders gets it flagged as price error

you saved us from disappointment and got a bargain for yourself it's a win-win

now im curious the stats, approximate 90% saving, how many deals posted at 90% off lowest price ever was successfully shipped, with a nice bell curve over differing savings

    Are you serous OP ?
I think we all know the best deals aren't posted .

    • +1

I seriously didn't know this, I enjoy posting deals and sharing the love, but I guess I see there's more benefit keeping it hush hush on occasion.

I have something (deal/hack) that has saved me 10's of thousands of dollars over the last 2 years that I would never post because it would be patched in no time. The best stuff doesn't get shared.

Nah you did the right thing.

You could’ve posted it as a comment in the Amazon insufficient quantity thread.

I hope you enjoy your lifetime supply of cloths.

Thanks. It is a lot, and they have no expiry date so as long as I keep them safely packed I am good to go. I will give a few to my parents & friends.

  • Thanks for your lifes story.

I have been contacted by A Current Affair about shoppers fighting inflation with frugality. Will let you know when you can see more of my story on TV.

$200+ for a cleaning cloth? Whoa

    • +1

      500kg of cloths. Whoa….

      • That part was incorrect, the whole carton is less than 10kg.

Everyone knows you don’t post a very good deal on OzB until you’ve got as much as you want, or you’re confident there’ll be adequate stock for yourself and others.

My order of priority is, myself, friends I think might want to buy it, OzBargain, in that order. Some deals don’t make it to OzB.

  • +2

Why does this sound like an advertisement to me?

    • …because I truly love them so much. I'm not a business who justifies buying these for commercial workplaces, and I don't expect any OzBargainers will be buying them at full price either.

      • Get rid of the full price crap . Most of the best buys are RRP for 5 secs and gone ( and no restocking). I wonder what they go for after that lol :)

Tork also sells standard paper hand towels WITH a dispenser too. That is what I use in the garage.

Real curious to know it they ARE as good as described.
    Not arguing just wondering.
What is great for some might be standard for others. That personal opinion thingy.

I have also used the Tork paper hand towels, but from a roll, and although they are ok for light cleaning, they don't hold up well or hold enough water to tackle bigger cleaning tasks.
