Travel 4K Editing Laptop under $2,000

Not a full time video editor, just want a laptop that will let me preview 4k video at 1/2 or 1/4 on Premiere Pro without freezing. Don't really care if it takes an extra 30 minutes to export than something that cost's a lot more.

Looking for:
- 14" and above
- 12th Gen or 13th Gen
- 16GB RAM
- Slim & light
- GPU but not a must
- Type-C charging

Second hand options?

TIA

  • A bit over your budget but it does have the ideal kind of spec you are looking for

    $2474, (was $3299)
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/msi-stealth-14studio-14-q…

    14" QHD+ (2560 x 1600) 240Hz
    13th gen Intel, 16G RAM
    RTX 4050

If you're willing to go 15 inch your options are much better. Lenovo T15P Gen3 is $2,159. i7-12700H / RTX 3050 / 16GB RAM and Dell XPS 15 also have the same spec for roughly the same price if you buy on outlet.

    • Thanks, will look into the MSI.

Pretty sure the answer is an M1/M2 MacBook. Ticks all your boxes. Assuming you're okay with using OSX.

    • It's windows only for me, can't do osx.

      • It's called MacOS now. I'm sure you can learn how to use it, less capable people than you have mastered PP on a Mac.

        • +1

It's not an issue about learning it, I've used Windows for 25 years and would like to stick to it. Thanks for the MacOS correction.

@Zotech: As someone who has also used Windows for the last 25+ years, after looking around and using many, MANY different Windows laptops for work, IMHO: if you need a laptop, buy a Macbook. If you need a desktop, build a PC.

The performance of Windows laptops is abysmal even plugged in thanks to thermals and efficiency.

I bought a Macbook Pro 14 last year, and while there are some annoyances with the way that MacOS works, there are generally workarounds to force it into doing your bidding. Look for Snazzylabs's videos where he goes over settings you should change and apps/solutions you should use to make it more liveable

            • @chartparker: If you film on an Iphone, then the Mac solution goes hand in hand, no howling fan full of dust and half speed on batteries. IP13pro and M2 do it for many.

            • @chartparker: Can you install $900 worth of pirated adobe products at the click of a button on Mac?

  • Just thought I'd mention to prevent future disappointment.

If you are ever planning to switch to Davinci, which in my opinion is vastly superior, you'll need a decent GPU in your laptop.
