    Appreciate the list! Thank you!

      • +28

Perhaps a scam from Woolworths, but for OP it’s generating a list from the catalogue, which I find useful, and presumably not a scam,

        • -5

We should be voting for the quality of the deal, not the amount of effort the OP has put in creating the post

            • +5

              @Travelbug:

              Your useless Vu

Says the person who has posted 0 deals and then launches a personal attack on the OP of a useful deal

          • @BargainMe: We should be voting for whichever deal we like, in this case this is useful to me so I voted for it.

      • +2

If it’s a scam you should report to the police

      • +1

Give it a week then buy them for not scammy sale prices.

        • I'll just shop at Aldi where they haven't pumped up the prices of everything just so that they can then have them on 'special'. The strategy is working for Coles and Woolworths perfectly though as every week they get free advertising on OzBargain.

          • +2

@BargainMe: I can guarantee with 100% certainty that free advertising from Ozbargain is not a factor or consideration in the marketing or strategy of coles. Can’t speak to Woolies.

          • +3

@BargainMe: Aldi has put up their prices too, and does the same thing with Super Savers and Special Buys to get you in the store, but some items cost more that the generic or sale option at Colesworth.
If you stick to the specials and generics at Colesworth it can work out to be better than Aldi. No criticism of Aldi, I shop there as well.

Woolies and Coles also have click and collect and delivery options that is really useful for people who work a lot, have kids, a disability or just don’t want to spend their time at the shops. When grocery shopping online you’re less inclined to make impulse purchases. Colesworth tend to be open longer hours, which costs money to do.

So basically these lists help people who do shop Colesworth to figure out which the better deals are each week.

Also worth noting that Woolworths and Coles are publicly listed, so yes they are for profit, but this benefits shareholders, which can be anyone. If they don’t profit, they fold and we don’t get a choice in where to shop, competition is reduced, prices go up. As it is we have a choice of Aldi, Coles, Woolies, IGAs (I’ve found some bargains there too), Costco as well as farmers markets and independents, which is pretty good.

Prices are absolutely inflated and RRP is BS, but that’s exactly what lists like this are for, to help people get things at a reasonable price.

            • -1

@morse: "Prices are absolutely inflated and RRP is BS"

Yes is what my beef is, and by having these lists we encourage it

  • +2

That Aunt Betty's pudding gave me a memory.
Does anyone else remember treacle and other self-saucing puddings in a can?
Damn its got my tastebuds going…

    • +2

Yes, they were my favourite as a kid. I even liked the oven ones, could eat it every night, but boiling the can was the best one. Core memory unlocked.

  • Restocking Poppin Microwave Popcorn $1.00. I have Woolies Rewards deals for $47 off $120 spend.

    • +1

120 microwave popcorns for 61 cents each! That’s better than a kick in the woolies (or so I’m told)

      • +1

50 bonus points per pack, worth 25c.

So I can get a pack of popcorn for 36c each

        • With the money you save you can afford an awesome popcorn popper!

Strike that, I just realised it’s microwave popcorn that’s on special. Never mind me, move along…

    • Amazing the deals some get, I’ve never received any viable deals from them. It’s always well out of my financial status, which they should know by all the online transactions. Best I get is $5 off a $250 spend. I’m a single parent on a pension ffs

      • +1

"which they should know by all the online transactions"
        That's your downfall.
        Only inactive accounts get targeted.

  • +12

Also, is it just me or has the general number and quality of 50% discounted specials dropped…
Now I really am sounding like a grandpa - 'back in the good old days I remember half the store would be on 50% special one week, then the other half the next week…'

    • +1

Good old days are over I’m afraid 😧

      • +2

On the plus side, eating out has never been so cost-effective

    • How long ago were these good old days?

      • +7

The good old days ended the day the Dr. Oetker Speciale was taken off the shelf.

    • +1

Yeah a lot of my favourites that used to be regularly half price are now a measly "$2 off". Screw you Woolworths. Costco can have my money.

      • +1

Found very little benefit in Costco unless your buying for a family of 10

        • +1

The fuel alone makes it worthwhile.
Bulk buying can be great - but is not for everyone.

        • -2

Then you haven't actually assessed it's value.

The fuel discount alone is at minimum 20c cheaper than anywhere else you can get it, which already nets you over $500 a year in savings after having paid for the annual membership.

You can do the cool room inside for all your fresh veg and salad requirements for the week. Substantially cheaper than Colesworths or even the local veg shop. No requirement to buy anything in bulk.

The freezer sections contain a big variety of bags/packages of frozen seafood, chicken & pre-made stuff no bigger in volume than what you'd get from Colesworths. They also have pre-sliced lunch meats, 2lt dairy options and yoghurt & cheese packs no larger than a normal Colesworths option. Most if not all options are better tasting, quality and noticeably cheaper.

Cleaning sprays, detergents and many basics of that nature can all be purchased at Cosco in normal size and volume, no requirement to buy the bulk or larger volume sizes also on sale.

Cosco is very economical for any single person. The only caveat would be that it's not if you are a single person who consumes nothing but trash food and doesn't have a car.

          • @infinite: Fuel is on par with vibe and atlas where I live. Maybe a cent or 2 at times but Double the distance to get there so no benefit there. Last time we went with someone for the variety of stuff we eat .. genuinely healthy it wasn't really worth the drive and time. Until recently the nearest store was 50 min away. Now we are 25 min away so factoring in fuel cost and joining fee then no it's not for us.

  • +1

    Thanks OP

Coles and Woolies 50% off are now garbage. I used to buy a few things from the list each week, but now it's just mediocre.

Pandemic really pushed the world into another era of pain and ways of life, like 9/11

    • Some ok stuff,Raisin toast, soup, Nescafe Coffee Sachets - come in handy when away from home coffee machine, and the Kyiv's are not to bad with some fresh veggies from garden ).

  • +2

The Twinings Peppermint tea is good stuff. Do not buy the Woolies/Coles cheap stuff, it tastes like dishwater.
