    Seems like a normal price..

    • +3

      Normally $8, bion

      • +6

who pays 4AUD for a pack of chips?

        • +31

This is a 300g pack not a 175g pack so its okay value ($2.33 equivalent price)

          • +9

@boomy: Exactly. Please check you got the correct size.
So if it is a 1kg pack chips, you still think $4 too expensive?
            This is directed at freedomofspeech.

        • +1

Anyone that shops at Colesworth these days.

        • +3

Even though it is a larger pack, $4 is still a rip..

Besides that, the original kettle chilli from the 90s/early 2000s was far superior. These are better than most chips on the market but still kinda meh..

    • +1

normal before potato shortage and colesworth’s robbery, I mean inflation

My local food works, who are normally the expensive convenience option, are now selling chips cheaper than woolies down the road

  • +14

Wow, the normal price of Kettle chips at Coles is $6 for 165grams. WTF!

    https://www.coles.com.au/product/kettle-sea-salt-and-vinegar…

Wow, the packs used to be 200g then 175g now 165g and the price has almost tripled.

Similar chips are around $2 for 200g at Aldi.

    • +2

They will get plenty of sales 50% off with people being conned that it's a great price.

    • +17

I've actually stopped buying Kettle altogether. On top of the fact that they're a rip off, they've also changed their recipe, maybe in the last few years, and it's just nowhere as crunchy and delicious as it used to be. Plus it's way more powdery in terms of flavour.

      • +3

        Amen RIP Honey Baked Ham.

        • +1

they brought that back as a classic release recently, brought back memories of cupboards full of them when my housemate worked at the Kettle factory

          • @Irishness: One of the brands had something like braised pulled beef which flew off the shelves but another, something like pork and apple, has no taste but is still there. Don't know what these manufacturers are thinking.

            • @[Deactivated]: loved the Honey Baked Ham, I assume they taste test & get good feedback but like when coke changed their recipe after much research & testing the reality doesn't match

              • @Irishness: Yeah I liked that too but haven't had it since prices jumped.

      • +5

Chili hasn’t been the same since the 90s. It used to be real chilli powder, they were crunchier and very addictive.

        • +1

Maybe I never tried the real deal but as a kid I remember having chilli in like 2002. it was SPICY, now not really. Flavour was really good too.

Nowadays I get original chips and dust them in my own chilli powder. Both store bought but also one i made from home grown chillis I dried and crushed. Very tasty!

          • +2

@Boioioioi: Yes I think early 2000s was the OG chili. The best. Changed around 2005 I reckon. I should try doing what you do, sounds good.

            • @nubzy: Yeah it did, then I remember it changed again in 2009 or 2010, along with the packaging and they started calling it Jalapeno bla bla, it used to be called just Chilli.

And yeah for sure try it, its not quite the same, but its pretty addictive! Goes well with other flavour combos too, e.g. sour cream & chives + chilli powder

          • +2

@Boioioioi: Nah just you sense of taste deteriorating…

          • @Boioioioi: You should start making and selling your own brand of chilli flavoured chips, and undercut Kettle ;-)

    • It's $2.99 at aldi now for 200g

      • -1

Still less than half the price though!

    • +2

      corporate greed

      • Absolutely. Plus inflation.

    • +1

This deal is an indicstion that the prices have started to come down a bit. I personally have stopped buying chip dud to the recent ridiculous price jacking and then offer discounts..

    • Youd be amazed how many people still buy them, even when right next to them, redrock is 1/2 price or vice versa.

  • Reminds me I really should post the offer at my Coles yesterday - paper-wrapped 4-finger standard size KitKats $0.25

    • The Milo ones?

    • Which Coles? My local scanning at full price

      • Waterford Plaza

        • Cool! Will check it out later.

You should use Imgur or something as your link shows your full name unless that’s ok with you

      • Cheers

  • +2

I'm hungover, this will hit the spot

  • +4

I know the price of potatoes has increased but the profit margin on chips has to be huge it's crazy $6 in Colesworth for a 165-175g packet

      • +5

I don't think that is how it works

      • +7

In every situation like this it always turns out that the company took the extra money for profits instead of increasing wages.

You are a very naive person.

        • +1

Would you rather the chip company say “the business of making chips is not profitable enough so it’s just not worth it and we will stop making chips full stop”

That’s why happened to the car manufacturing here. Is just not worth it to any car company to make cars in Australia.

          • +2

@illusion99: Are you seriously saying that chip making is in any way comparable to car manufacturing?

We make the chip ingredients locally and its highly automated.

Car making is highly manual and requires everything to be imported from all over the world and the cost to make the cars are directly affected by our high wages due to how manual it is.

Your posts are coming off as very uneducated and just repeating what you heard on facebook.

            • +1

@samfisher5986: My point is that every company needs to make a minimum profit to make it worthwhile to continue operating. I own my own business and even if I make a profit it doesn’t make sense to continue operating if it’s not at a minimum level. A company may choose to operate below that level if they think it will improve but if not then it’s just not worth the effort

If I make a profit of $100 a year but have to basically work like a dog to make that happen whos going to do it for that minuscule profit?

          • @illusion99: Didnt car manufacturing stop here due to the government removing a lot of subsidies which most other governments around the world off to their car manufacturers. I still remember in malaysia how much pricier all other imported brands are compared to their Proton Due to the exorbitant taxes for importing cars.

            • @lonewolf: Probably but wasn’t the point I was trying to make. My bad for not coming across clearly.

      • LOL!!!

        youve gotta be kidding???????

    The gouge continues.

  • As a long-time Chili favourite, I can say the Aldi variation of the Chilli chips is very similar.

    • I'll have to try it again. I eat loads of these and have been put off by the price hike.

Still buy them, but feel more guilty.

      • This deal makes them a bit cheaper than normal aldi price.

    • I recently tried some BBQ version they have (thin sliced type). It had less flavour but I like that because I think name brands put far too much flavouring on anyway.

should have been prepared using carolina reaper instead of spanish Jalapenos, making it even spicier.

  • +1

Couldn’t find at my local Coles

  • I prefer if they have honey soy chicken for this size

  • I am guessing bumper potato harvest coming up…

  • What does chilli taste like? Never tried it before.

    • +1

Really, really cold. Think of something hot — it’s the opposite of that. And if you think cold isn’t a taste, then try ripping off an ice cube that’s stuck to your tongue… that’s pretty intense right there

      • I just tried them. I wouldn't describe the taste as cold, but these are now my new favourite.

  • +1

I gotta say, I've never bought the big bags before, but I reckon the intensity of the chilli in this big bag is a lot less than the normal sized bags… unless this old tongue is losing it's buds.

    • I think the robot misses seasoning with the finest Spanish jalapeños once in a while. If only you had another bag for increased statistical power…
