Wine Enthusiast Award Winners Mixed Cabernet Sauvignon 12 Pack $99/12 Bottles (RRP $258) @ Wine Shed Sale

90
CABWINNERS

A request last week for some more mixed pack deals, so here's the first, a mixed Cabernet Sauvignon deal, reviewed by Wine Enthusiast magazine, one of the most influential wine magazines in the US, made by 5* Halliday producer, small, family vigneron, sixth-generation winemaker, Bec Hardy.

Each 12 Pack contains six bottles each of:

Time Flies When You're Having Fun SA Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
"A succulent, juicy fruited Cab with oodles of cherry and plum fruit, backed by savory spice, tobacco and mint. Medium-bodied, the focus on the palate is again on the fresh primary fruit. It’s tugged gently by spicy tannins, and a peppery note lingers on the finish. Easy, everyday drinking, particularly by Cabernet
standards. 90 points." Wine Enthusiast.

'Lakeside' SA Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Wine Enthusiast review:
This South Aussie Cab delivers in a big way. It opens with bright, lucid aromas of red berry, baking spice, tree bark and flowers. The tannins are well-integrated, soft yet present, gently tugging on the fruit, which gets a lift from the crunchy acidity. It’s a modern, medium-weight Aussie Cab that should be a weeknight staple."
92 & Editor's Choice. Top 100 Wines, 2021. Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

Wine Pilot review:
"The range of wines from the 2019 harvest put out by Bec Hardy and her team show that this is a very much underrated vintage. This Cab is crimson red, and does hail from the more herbal end of the Cabernet spectrum – not everybody’s cup of tea, but for those who enjoy this style, they’ll find this to be absolute cracking value. Tobacco leaf, cherries, dry herbs, red fruits. This is a softer style of Cabernet. Has some early development evident. Decent length, gentle acidity and lingers nicely. Certainly has a good half dozen or more years ahead of it. 90."

Vegan. Screwcap.

  • Tastes like tree bark ? Who made up that ?

    • haha. My favourite from a tasting note I've read is "Barnyard characters" - I was never sure if they meant the chook shed or Shaun The Sheep…. :-))

Seriously, I think the folk at Wine Enthusiast saw that as one aspect that completes the overall flavour profile. One of the great things about wine is its subjectivity. Would I have used that as a descriptor? Possibly not, but then again, I wouldn't have anywhere near the broad tasting experience of the panels that judge for publications like these. Cheers! RD :-)

      • -1

Barnyard characters in wine tasting terms is a polite way to say it smells of straw, dirt and a hint of shit with a shit aftertaste, emphasis on the shit.

        Basically calling it garbage.

        • Not entirely so…….

Believe it or not "barnyard" in small amounts it can be an attractive character. Not so often present in Australian wines but the French do like a bit of it in places like Burgundy and Rhone. Again, the subjetive aspect is how much is too much. Too much and it's not so pleasant.

          Cheers! RD :-)

FYI - Barnyard is not related tree bark…..

        • To be fair Wine Shed Sale do not sell premium wines 😂

  • Wine Enthusiast

Jilly Goolden, are you in the room?

PS had a glass of the Time Flies When You're Having Fun CS last night, no pretentiousness there, just a well balanced, fully flavoured easy drinker.

Absolutely. We're all wine experts because we know what we like and what we don't.
