Anyone have experience with the duffle bags?

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-31-…

    • I have a similar Aldi overnight bag. Quality is good, but no internal closeable pockets. Would buy again.

      • Cool thanks, gonna go check it out tonight.

    any reviews on this please?

      bought it last year.

Its decent enough, the lock and the lining could be of better quality but for $60 im happy with it.

Ive found pretty much all luggage under $300-$400 has questionable quality locks/lining/zips/etc so if i wanted something better I'd probably be looking to spend x5 the amount.

      • I agree. The luggage will always break around the sewing area around the size. You can see it by peeling the plastic back. Normally on the corners.

If not the wheel will always get broken sooner or later.

  • not sure what they're like but they look identical to the antler ones i have..

    • Probably from the same factory

I am.not sure how to translate the 52l capacity in the airlines luggage allowance …for example many airlines stipulate the checked in luggage should be 20kg or under. Is this a suitable one?

    • +9

      I am.not sure

probably because one is talking about volume (l) and the other weight (kg)

      • +6

How is it that you are so wise in the ways of science?

    • 20kg refers to the weight of your luggage once it's been packed with your things.

So after you've put in all your clothes, toiletries and whatever else you want to bring with you, it can't weigh more than 20kg.

      • Needless to say… 😂

52 litres is how much space there is, 20kg is how much weight you can have. Pick up 1kg of flour and then a 1kg dumbbell, they both weigh the same but the space they take up is very different. If you can't visualise 52L I recommend going instore and just having a look.

Everyone explained the difference between volume and weight but no one answered your question!

Yes, this is suitable for checked luggage. It's a bit too big for carry on. You'd probably consider this a medium or medium-small size checked bag.

      • +1

        You are spot on.
I was expecting ansers more along the lines of height, width and depth in cms when posted this question.

    • +2

I would prefer 64cm but 67cm is probably not much difference. Typically if you fully pack this size of luggage without expansion (if available), it would likely end up at 15kg, might be more if your clothing made with heavier materials.

      • Thank you for explaining that it fits in 'medium'size category, this answers my question.

  • i bought the smaller soft shell carry on size early last year i think it was, decent quality, feels a bit less durable than the expensive brands but good value.

  • This or american tourister?

    • Never tried this but I really really like my hard shell American touristers I bought.

  • Is soft side luggage dying out? I'm on the hunt for a new suitcase and the range of hard sided bags is amazing, yet soft side is limited. Soft side luggage is lighter, will never crack, and the contents are generally fine inside.

    • Samsonite does a ultralight soft side, rrp is crazy but I got a carry on for $80. Check strand bag or whichever chain is popular in your city.

    • All the key players still make softsides. I wholly agree - they're better than cheap hardsides. Samsonite Cosmolite being crack resistant is the only worthy hardside, but too pricey IMO..

  • Clearly not a carry-on (which is what I'm after), so I'm left with Kmart's weighing 2.4kg, packing 33L, and sporting 47x32x22cm $39 on one corner, and Big W's weighing 2.6kg, packing 42L and sporting 56x40x23cm for $45 on the other. Who wins? You decide. Any other contenders?

Note: Jetstar's carry-on size limit is 56x36x23cm. What d'ya say; wing it with Big W's? She'be right? Or is she gonna be promptly recognised and barred from entry?

    • Carry-on limit is 115cm linear: 56 x 36 x 23. Big W is out. I prefer a messenger bag or duffel for carry-on as I can squish under my seat if desperate. I'm never going to be the type who boards intentionally late to get their bag stowed in the hold for free.

      • What's "the hold"; some extra space at the front? What's the benefit in that?? I'd rather have my carryon within reach at all times (for all those valuables and conveniences).

        • +1

The hold is where they store cargo. Used to be a thing in the USA & Europe, boarding late so your bags don't get weighed, then being forced to have them stored in the hold because the overhead lockers are full. All while avoiding the fee for a checked bag.

          • @sumyungguy: Yeah, sounds like too much work and risk for marginal benefit. Pretty sure everyone in aviation is extra sensitive to weight, and can easily tell the difference between 7 and 9 kg just by lifting it.
