TV for Bedroom Advice

We purchased a TV from Aldi a year ago, a Bauhn 40" ? Anyway, the interface is terrible, and after a bit of complaining to Temp and Aldi, they gave us a full refund.
Now we are after a replacement TV. It will be going into a gap, which is @ 1090mm wide. (REVISED)

I've read the entry level TCL and Hisesnse 40-43 are not much better in their operation.
So, I am looking at the following:-
*TCL50P735 QUHD $595 from xxxx. Here are the specss
*TCL 50C635 $695 from xxxx. Here are the specs
*Hisense 50A7KAU $795 from xxxx (https://hisense.com.au/product/50-uhd-4k-tv-series-a7kau/)
*Samsung UA50CU8000WXXY $795 from xxxx Here are the specs (The 43 is $695)

I'm leaning towards the Samsung, as we have a 55 and a 65 already, which have been great, but happy to save a $1 or 200 if thir performance is good, and the remote doesn't stick (like the Aldi one).

One thing I’ll never is a tv in my bedroom.

And OP already has two other TVs:

      …as we have a 55 and a 65 already…

      • plus a 26in Sony outside (soon to be replaced by a 40IN Re-wired Bauhn)

Netflix and chilling is much easier if you have a bedroom TV. If you're both already sitting on the bed you're halfway there.

    • I’ll never is a tv in my bedroom

Never say never. I had to spend a little while in an old peoples home because I needed to be under a nurse's supervision after a medical procedure, but didn't need to occupy a hospital bed. A TV in your bedroom is not optional in those places. And you're glad it is.

I know a genuine Panaphonics from Alsi when I see one

Never ask your TV for bedroom advice. They only work by remote, have no in person experience.

Samsung is always a safe bet. Its a cheap TV; the UI isnt perfect but its good enough (unless you flick between 15 channels constantly). Dont overanalyse it. Go and have a look at JB or Costco or where ever and pick something. If you buy something and the interface is terrible, just add a chromecast or firestick or something

Just connect a "Google Chromcast TV"

    Problem solved…

This is the way. I would just go with the samsung (creature of habit), add a chromecast (or firestick) and call it a day - just confirm tv supports CEC so you can conveniently control it all using the 1 remote.

I connected mine to the 32" Philips monitors that I bought from that deal recently on here.

Not a snowflake here, but what you just did is classic bullying. Usually followed by other kids laughing and adding demeaning comments.

  • Anyway, the interface is terrible

What didn't you like about it? Hard for anyone to know what to recommend if you don't specify.

Also, isn't the interface on all Android TVs basically the same?

edit: like everyone has said, if you want a slick interface for the smart TV stuff, just hook up a Chromecast with remote…or better still, an Apple TV. Then the built-in interface becomes basically moot.

    • What didn't you like about it?
      Sorry, I was at work.
Firstly the buttons on the remote would get stuck easilly. I tried to reprogram it with a Logitech Harmony and it wouldn't fully recognise it.
Secondly, it would freeze or lockup on Amazon, Netflix, as well as Chromecasting from another device.
We upgraded ABB to their highest plan and put in a Deco Mesh X50. Everything else works better now, and the TV only slightly.
I guess having 2 more expensive Samsungs, obviusly perform better than a $330 Aldi unit.

      • Firstly the buttons on the remote would get stuck easilly.

One of the great things about Windows Media Center is that it didn't use a remote with lots of little buttons that you had to remember the function of, it just used a mouse. You move it, and everything pops up on screen and you select what you want with a click. Damned if I know why everyone didn't and doesn't do that. Point and click.

Pointing and clicking is also better for those of us who need glasses. If you've got the right glasses on (or off) to see the screen you don't have to swap to another pair, or put another pair on, or take off the ones you've got on, to use the remote.

Another for no tv in bedroom :)

  • Revised dimension 1090Wide. Whoops.

Looks like a Samsung 43" then for $100 less.

    • Yeah, I was about to say, none of those 50" TVs will fit in your gap.

If I were you I'd spend a bit extra to get an OLED. They've come down in price so much and they are vastly superior to LED.

  • 1080p cheapo projector pointed at the ceiling. Can be much bigger then and you can just lay back and enjoy.

    • Good idea as well.

    • Have you actually tried and enjoyed it?

I went through all the trouble of moving my bed to make room for the projector, only to get really dizzy watching an action movie for just 5 minutes. Maybe it’s just me.

  • Have you just considered getting a secondhand Samsung 40" tv from Facebook Market place? I picked up a couple for $100 each recently. Both were around 10 years old but work just fine. Add a HD Google TV Chromecast ($50-$80) and you'll have have a decent setup for your bedroom for less than $200.
