YouTube Age Restriction - Any Good Workarounds?

I’ve recently been hit with the YouTube app asking me to verify ID to watch certain videos on the app. Only options to overcome this is to provide credit card or drivers licence details - not the most enticing option!

One work around I found was to install a userscript from here:

Thoughts on this?

Anyone else found a better workaround?

Has anyone provided YouTube with either a credit card or drivers licence?

    Grow up

  • haven't but wouldn't be a surprise if a few months later, they're on the dark web with Google taking no blame or facing any consequences

  • Can you just watch the video in your browser? Then your adblock would remove the ads too.

Even in the browser I get the same age verification request.

      • Log out of your account?

        • I’m not signed in with the browser version. When clicking on an age restricted video it asks me to sign in to verify age… :(

          • @Hamish125: Hmm. I’ve just remembered, about 18 months ago I went through a period where this happened to me for about a month, but only on one device. I don’t recall what fixed the problem, but I would have tried the typical cache clearing, updating/reinstalling my browser etc. I also think I never had the issue in private mode, so used that in my workaround.

Can't you just create a Gmail account, put in a fake DOB and then go to Youtube? I haven't had to confirm my age ever

Using Android? Get Newpipe apk and sideload it.

Otherwise there's a nsfw youtube page.

    • Using iOS/iPhone. The only workaround I saw was the userscript I posted above.

    • The video did load on nsfw YouTube. Haha, also some interesting videos pop up on the homepage! Definitely not a site to load at work 😅

I always use an ad blocker so never noticed.

        • Yep, just loaded it in the browser with Ublock origin and was all good.

  • A few posters have commented asking why not just create a new gmail with fake DOB etc. however from my understating, in the EU and now Australia, Google and YouTube need to verify whether your birthdate is correct or not…

Also I believe Ublock origin doesn’t remove the requirement to verify age

Ask your mum to approve your account.

Don't worry. They don't actually verify anything. There is no check that the number you give belongs to you, so you can use any ID you like. The whole thing is a joke, pretending to do something, to comply with rues made by morons.

Normalization is a process whereby behaviours and ideas are made to seem "normal" through repetition, or through ideology, propaganda, etc., often to the point where they appear natural and taken for granted.

Overton Window The Overton window is an approach to identifying the ideas that define the spectrum of acceptability of governmental policies. It says politicians can act only within the acceptable range. Shifting the Overton window involves proponents of policies outside the window persuading the public to expand the window.

Dialectical Reasoning is a method of reasoning in which one starts with a thesis and develops a contradictory antithesis, both with rationales, and then combines and resolves them into a coherent synthesis, with the ultimate goal being the implementation of change.

No mate, the smart people are manipulating the weak and using morons, selfish, immoral and disaffected to do it - Any work around is a design feature not a flaw. It is all by design to fulfil an agenda https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gnpCqsXE8g&pp=ygUNeXVyaSBiZ…

Not sure if it would work for youtube but years ago my fake named Facebook was reported.

They wanted a license or similar for id.

10 mins later after using a free photoshop app i turned my real license into a complete fake with no real details of me and facebook approved.

    Perhaps an option?
Unless their software has improved a lot to recognise fakes?

    • Haha that sounds like a good idea! Might give that a whirl. Though just recently I went through the prompts to upload my licence and it seems it’s the same process that is used when registering a new SIM card. May be quite sophisticated

      • I just used the options to get the colour and font similar.

Wasn’t perfect but it was reasonable enough to sneak a stupid name tho

        • Which photoshop app did you use?

@Hamish125: Not too sure mate, it was a few years ago.

Just one of the free ones.
Possibly may have accepted a free trial of it then cancelled after using it.
