Cheap Backup Phone Plan

Hi all

I want to have a spare phone ready that the kids can take if they are heading out to the park/play tennis etc. What's the cheapest long expiry Sim going at the moment? Need very minimal data/call/SMS allowance - don't care which provider it is. Any options at the moment?

Thanks

Currently, Amaysim PAYG is a better choice than ALDI because
    * the rates are cheaper, 12c/min vs 15c/min as of now
    * main advantage is that it is $10 starter pack for 365 days expiry whereas aldi has now changed it such that in 60 days, the $5 starter will expire, making you have to recharge min. $15 every 365 days as opposed to $10 every 365 days from amaysim. This will probably make a difference since they probably won't be calling you too frequently unless there's an emergency or something like that

    • Nice, didn't realise the Amaysim $10 credit lasts 365 days.

Yes this. I bought the Amaysim $10 starter pack from Woolies on special (I think it was $5 about a month ago) and activated it on Amaysim PAYG. $10 for 365 days if not used much.

the other alternative is to go one of amaysims new customer discounted starter plans right that come with data

then cancel after the promo period ends. then leave the plan to expire. the number still works for a year to receive calls

(e.g. u wanted a burner phone to sign up for spam and promos and uber/doordash where u only use it to receive sms 2fa)

I have postpaid PAYG plan which is not available anymore. $0 pm. Holding it for few years now. Amaysim let you choose your own number and it's free service. I have 4 different prepaid connection which has last 5 digits same.

    Amaysim. PAYG plan.

    $10 per year = $10 call credit

Call credit rolls over if unused and you topup another $10 before it expires.

If you actually use it frequently to make calls, contact them to switch you the the $60 (per year) "call and text only" which includes unlimited calls and sms.

*Note: These plans do not have any data.

  • Thanks for all the info everyone. If we did want a little bit of data, is there anything around the $50pa or cheaper? Probably won't need it and will go with the amaysim offer mentioned, but just checking. Thanks

You won't really ever see $50 but currently, there's a 1/2 price sale on amaysim long expiry (1 year plans) and the 60GB with unlimited calls and text is only $60 which seems to be the best option if you want data.

      • Thanks for the link - I just saw that on ozb. People seem to think that maybe there is a cashback on it too….?

      • +1

Plus $7 cashback at Cashrewards or Shopback.

      • This link tells me $99 for 65gb 365 day plan. I can't find the $60 plan….?

          1. That half price sale is over
          2. Plan seems to have changed after years and finally got 5GB more. It is showing 65GB just because for the first renewal, they're giving 5GB as a bonus.

$40 vodafone sims when on special for <$15. 365 PAYG option upon activation.

  • Does any of PAYG sim come with QR code? I heard Woolworth sim does?

I want to experiment if tgat can be setup in my Samsung watch for receiving calls

  • Amaysim (optus but better) prepaid pay as you go
    or
    Scientology > Telepathy

  • Vodafone $50 sim is $20 on sale at Coles, atm.

Use the PAYG option upon activation.
