What Was Your Most Favourite Job?

As per the title, what job have you had (past or present) that has been your most favourite job? By this I mean you looked forward to going to work, you enjoyed the work and overall you felt very happy working in the job.

I worked at the movies when I was in school and at uni and have to say that was probably the job that I most enjoyed when I look back on it, even despite the pay being very low compared to what I earn now.

  • Internal tech support at my university when I was a student there (basically a paid internship). I got paid about half of what a proper employee did, but had slightly lower expectations of my performance. Working at a uni meant getting exposed to a wide variety of stuff, like computers that operated laser cutters, to computers connected to chem lab equipment, and a variety of "interesting" problems to solve. Disliked my management, but really liked a few of my peers who did technical work. Also being a staff member meant getting access to the free coffee in the staff room (good machines worth thousands of dollars).

  • Nitpicker. For a few months on the bus if I saw somebody sitting infront of me with nits I'd reach over, grab one and eat it.

  • What i've found in the past is it's not necessarily the job but the people you work with.

I've had go nowhere jobs (bike mechanic) but the people i worked with were great and i loved my time there, haven't really been happier since.
I've also had engineer roles which paid 4x the amount but the people i worked with were brain dead social hermits and i hated it.

Now have found my calling in project management which combines both techincal and social skills with a great workplace culture and honestly it's been terrific, we get on the turps a bit and have a strong work friend group.

    • I am struggling to get a full time job mate. I have been in Aussie for 7years and its hard here.

  • Can't say I've ever had a job I enjoyed so much to say that I have a favourite. Quite sad really…

  • Had a job during uni where me and my best friend went into a medical practice every weekend and scanned medical documents into a server. Pay was average but hanging with my best mate talking shit for hours and getting paid was pretty sweet.

  • I worked at Wrigleys when I was at uni. 20 years ago, $22 an hour, 10 hour shifts. Good staff, easy work, paid for heaps of beers.

  • Ski Instructor.

Waiting to start this year's season.

  • A baby, do nothing all day with someone serving me :p

  • Working at McDonald's with my mates.
The overnight shifts were a blast with 1.5 pay and chatting to friends with Rage playing in the background - only drive-through was open.

  • And my 2nd job doing data entry. Got to read real-estate ads from overall the country then keying them into a database. You can chat and listen to music as long as the work gets done. That got me into property investments later.

And my 3rd job as a Taxi driver. Then all went down hill in terms of enjoyment after uni and working full time.

Kitchen hand and delivery driver at a very popular local Italian restaurant.

I was only 20 at the time, paying off my first car, and its light years from where I am now… but thinking back that was definitely the best job I've ever had.
The food was amazing, coming home smelling of some of the best Italian dishes I've ever eaten. The owners were really nice, rewarding hard work and reliability, and I actually learned a lot of cooking skills being there that I still use to this day. Cutting up potatoes, helping prep some of the dishes, watching the pizzas being made, even delivering to the customers was fun. All the staff got on, young waitresses brushing up against you in the kitchen when the rush was on…. just a lot of fun in every way imaginable.
It didn't feel like a place to earn money, it felt like a social setting. I'd be sore from top to toe at the end of a shift, but was definitely worth it.

Got serious and pursued a career (don't regret it), but best job was one of my first and most memorable. Crap pay when I look back, but wouldn't have changed a thing.
