Changing out of Optometry

Been doing clinical optometry for 10 years and getting bored of it as it's repetitive and being in a windowless room all day sucks.

Has anyone changed out of optometry to something else? Looking perhaps getting into medical sales, as I like the sales aspect of the job.

Probably not different enough but can you move into opthamology easily or is there a lot more training involved?

Just add another 10-15 years of training.

But then they will be an actual doctor?

Specs is an available user name, which seems like a missed opportunity

Mobile optometry traveling to Australia's smaller towns in a taxpayer funded self sufficient bus meanwhile towing your office, complete it with online eye wear purchases.
Travel mixed with a different town to work/wake-up in each week.

Work somewhere with windowed rooms and get blackout shutters on a remote.

There must be an OnlyFans niche for people wearing glasses fetish?

There is an ASMR video on youtube with 700+ thousand views, so when all else fails…

      • Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response? (I had to look it up)

  • I'm an Optom working 10 years who is bored of the job as well!

2 years ago i interviewed and was shortlisted for a job as a contact lense rep but had to withdraw for personal reasons. Have you looked in to something like that?

    • I have but that's just flogging 3-4 products over and over to practices who only make about 2% revenue from their products.

I did consider just buying a retired boomers business and running it for something different.

  • I guess you can’t see a future in your profession?

  • Stay in your job.
    Dentistry seems worse.

  • My optomotrist has a side hustle

    • Is it a cafe by any chance?

      • Nope. Its one of her interests.
Sounds like you know yet another optometrist with a side hustle!

        What interests do you have?
Maybe you can turn one into a side hustle. And then if it takes off you can leave optometry. Or just work part time for your favorite clients.
