JB Hi-Fi Telstra Sim Plan & Gift Card Port Question

Hi all, my last 12 month JB Hi-Fi Telstra gift card plan has recently expired.

Just wondering if anyone has done another recently whilst still being on Telstra. And is able to advise if you can still order a new service to get the GC and then go on Telstra chat to move your phone number over to that new service and then cancel the old one? Or is the only way to do the 30 day port out? Also seems like the options are slimmer at JB now. All 24 month deals. But they did have $99 with $1100 GC for 24 months the other day which isn’t too bad. Would prefer the old $4-$500 12 month though.

Recommendations: check ur plan has expired via app. They did a bunch of reversals when I accidentally cancelled 12 months early…. Oops!

    • Yep definitely expired cheers. Have the notification in the app to change to a new plan.

  • You'll have to port out and back in. All the new JB plans are Upfront plans and Direct Debit only. And yeah unfortunately all plans that come with GC are now $69/$99 24-month only. $49 plan is now month-to-month and has capped 5G at least (only had 4G before and a contract).

usually 1 bill cycle is enough to port out, so 28 days ish.. don't port to boost/belong

What me and my partner did as per staff suggestion,

We keep both the old and new number, swapped the old number to new number (New contract) after 28 days without dramas.

Yes, paid extra for keeping both but we avoided the porting back dramas.

    • Ah ok not a bad idea. Not too keen on paying double phone bills for a month though.

  • What I was advised was to go get Aldi phone with new number, then once active, call Aldi to move the the JB Telstra old number to Aldi, then after 31 days, port back to JB Telstra as per standard process.

Apparently Aldi network is good. Anyone has done this route could share their experience?
