What Are The Advantages of A Cellular iPad?

I am about to purchase an iPad and wondering what is the advantage of wifi and cellular, rather than just wifi?

The cheapest iPad is an excellent device for Web Browsing, watch Youtube/Netflix, play Minecraft, etc. You can download programs from the App Store just like Android Device. Honestly, nothing in Android world can match the CPU / Screen performance of an iPad at the same price point. (except some grey imports from China). Most of the stores will not allow you returned open boxed device (except AppleStore) unless it is DOA. To be fair, nobody will buy a open boxed device at full price.

      • I am only returning the Product Care Plan as I was sold it under false pretences. I have already called the store

Ah….either AppleCare+ from Apple or Nothing.

WTF was this thread about, is this some kind of weird performance art piece?

      • I neeed to keep my old number, bought a new tablet, thought I could do it. Appareantly I cant just transfer it over. This was unknown to me prior,

        • I'm confused, were you expecting your iPad to replace your phone? Your "number", or SIM, is for your cellular connection. Your phone has a cellular connection, your (non cellular) iPad doesn't.

As explained in your other post, Wifi iPads are still very useful, and are the most commonly sold version, you just connect it to wifi at home, in cafes, libraries, etc., or to a hotspot from your phone. They are cheaper to buy, and don't require a telco subscription (ie SIM)

And the moral of the story…
NEVER buy Apple products from Hardly Normal.
They should be deregistered as an Apple reseller.

Gawhd those salesman…. if an ipad is not a cellular one there is no space/facility for a sim…. and upgrade anytime and get a full credit??? Seriously, go see him in 4 years and tell him you finally decided to upgrade.

Hotspotting to your phone, or connecting to home wifi is simple and easy and you only do it once and then it will automatically connect to either any time after. But when you get to public networks like library, airline lounge, … i bet you, judging by your level of skil, may have plenty of 'techno-stress' :)

    • Apple iPads come with and without cellular, but both come with wifi so you can hotspot from any mobile or wifi sharing location. Why you thought you could buy a non cellular iPad and use any mobile sim (and against a sales person advice given they listened to what you wanted to do) amazes us all!

In the cellular version you can put a mobile phone plan or prepaid but it will only do data. No calls in or out via the sim as only android allow this and not apple.

The cellular version has GPS too for maps too.

So on your iPad you can connect to your mobile and share data. Or join any other wifi hotspot. You can make calls over the internet, via FaceTime or Skype like application.

So even if you bought the cellular version, you couldn’t have used it like an oversized iPhone to make calls to landlines with a normal sim plan.

      On iPads it’s data only.

      • I thought since it was a tablet and optus has iPad plans it could accept SMS like the samsung. I didnt want to make calls with it

        • Sadly no. I assume you bought the WiFi only version. This has no ability to use a mobile network. Thankfully you can tether to your phone or use any WiFi you can find, such as at a shopping center, library and at home.

You have the device so get it setup and start using it.
