TV Unit/Cabinet for 75" TV

I’m in need of a good but not an arm and leg price tv unit to put a 72 inch tv.
My current set up is no good and on the wall is not an option.
Wife wants a white unit and I like ones with lots of storage/doors to hide stuff away it needs to hold I think 36kg weight tv.
I believe I will need something bigger than 1600mm as tv is 1670 wide but then again the base or should I say stand sits in middle of tv so 1600 maybe still ok as end of tv t will just over lap a little.
Not sure if a 1600 unit will look silly with a 72 in on top.
I would probably need to check the area see where it stops at each side of room if 1600 or say 1800 sizes

There is room to put where tv is now 1600 and bigger but both side will cover windows areas.

Some of these tv units/cabinets are crazy priced these days but possibly are quality but don’t want to spend loads tv was expensive enough lol.
My have a 65inch tv in cinema room taruis unit from 7 years ago which is quality heavy and looks great still like new today I think cost me $500 back then nowadays if still available probably $700 plus.

I’m looking at paying way less than $500 for one for the 72 inch.

Some places I looked online was amart they used to be well priced cheap now they are expensive these days.
Fantastic furniture again mixed views and annoying thing most stuff is delivery not much stuff you can walk into store and walk out with one.
IKEA is an option most stuff always in stock but they seem to be price gouging like most places these days.

You guys might have something that was sturdy well made and well priced for similar needs so be interested to know what this was.

Thanks

    besser blocks and planks
    .

  • I’m looking at paying way less than $500 for one for the 72 inch.

Good luck. What do you expect it to be made out of?!

If you can't afford even a cheap unit new, then hunt Gumtree/FB Marketplace and get a used one

    • 300 mark or so I think a good price ikea was an option but not sure if the qualify from them are t
I know on detolf cabinets price are way more than used to be and they have made them to hold less weight than previously which I never knew until I built the two latest ones.

Yes was thinking of second hand but I don’t know what I’m getting, is it suitable for the weight I put on it, was it a cheap item that seller thinks it’s worth more.
Unless I know what make or name item is I might not be getting such a good deal after all

just put it on the floor, opposite of tvtoohigh

  • Similar issues with a 75" screen - no wall mount, limited space.
I went with something like this
Obviously not white and no storage, but it was cheap.

    • I have something similar to that already holding a 55 inch tv which sits on a smaller tv glass table it goes up to 65 inch.
But I’m possibly going to use that and same table and put a 65 inch onto it and put in bedroom.
So obviously I need to get something else to put the 75 inch on to.

Out of interest, why buy a 75" tv if it is too big for the room?

    • Never said it was to big for room nor to big for the wall area it be just both ends of unit would cover parts of windows each side.

So it's tooo big for the room!

        • No lol actually a 1800 tv unit might not be wide enough as tv is 1670mm wide and units I been thinking of is 1800mm so just gives a little area each side of tv.
Which is still fine but a bit bigger might have been more ideal.
The stand sits in middle so don’t need to worry where legs of tv land

  • Do you live near a takeaway shop or supermarket? Try this?

    • But these are box gold in Sydney!

My parents have 3 milk crates in their backyard. Every time they have tradies attend the property, they always ask if my parents use them for anything otherwise they're more than happy to take the boxes off their hands.

  • dont waste your time with cabinets, as the TVs get bigger, they look bad as the screen overlaps the cupboards.

Get yourself a free standing TV bench, then put all the junk underneath.

The other thing is on certain TVs, the feet are wider than the TV itself. I found this out the hard way when i bought a bench the width of the TV, but not the feet.

Also, if you're drilling cable holes, drill them at the bottom of the shelf, so you dont see them . ie NOT like this

    • Tv bench, units or cabinets are all the same or entertainment unit they go under different names.
This 75 inch stand sits in the middle of the tv which is a good thing.

      • ahh ok, we are on the same page.

  • This one in the link below might suit. $449, White, 1800mm wide, 3 doors storage, can be bought online and is showing instore at my nearest Fantastic Furniture store.

    • I did see that but was hoping there was further discount with reduced gift cards. And was wondering if ikea is better choice not sure if fantastic furniture is gloss where as ikea is.

Both ikea and fantastic brands do still have the odd bad feedbacks not lining up,chipped or hard to build etc

      • It was one I considered, but decided to build my own as I had specific things I wanted in the unit.

I have some stuff from both companies and I would say they are on a par quality wise. They are are decent for the price but they certainly are far from high end.

As far as people saying they are hard to assemble I would say that some people, including people I know, should not be allowed near tools of any type. lol. And if it arrived damaged, just return it. Why keep it and then post a negative review?

If you like the look of it just go and check one out.

Anyhow, best of luck with your search.

  • TVs that big like to be wall mounted, then you can use any entertainment unit below it and you will have the full shelf space because the TV won't be on it.

    • I don’t have options to put on wall it’s not my place and I currently have a 65 inch on a tauris cabinet which is build well

  • Todds HiFi used to sell one for pretty cheap that was about 1.8M wide - Was good

  • Amart have a good range.

It’s best to inspect in store and judge the quality yourself.

This one is on special. I have no idea of it’s quality.

  • Why can't you wall mount it?

    • He has windows.

      • I think he stated the alternative place to put a larger TV unit has windows.

  • From Ikea's Besta Range - https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/besta-tv-bench-with-doors-white… and add 4 sets of legs to raise it another 10cm - https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/stubbarp-leg-white-90352795/
    Total $355.00

    • That’s good you can buy kegs for it as thought it was

      From Ikea's Besta Range

I bought one of these units and found out too late that the dimension given for the depth included the door thickness - ie the feet on my 75" Sony TV were too wide for the unit.

Something to keep in mind when comparing dimensions online.

Also, please make sure you secure the TV to the unit/wall - TVs this size can easily injure small, inquisitive children.

  • That’s good you can buy legs for it I did see this one but noticed it was fixed to wall so never bothered looking into it.
This might be an option it says for a tv of 72 inch lol I suppose it be close enough.

I did like the look of this one.

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/besta-burs-tv-bench-high-gloss-…

It’s gloss which looks nice but it is a bit more though white gloss does look better but Is it worth the extra

    • The Besta range has quite a number of options. Doors, drawers, open shelves.

Quite a number of different finishes for the fronts. Glass top if you wish.

Legs, no legs. Do make sure you put all the legs in place though to support the weight.

      • I will need to look into all the extras you can get or choices I had not planned on even looking at it as when I seen the pic I noticed it was floating fixed to wall so no good for me.
The someone posted about the legs you could by, and now your mentioned glass top obviously this all adds up.
But is it thick glass as a 75 inch tv will be sitting on it.

I maybe have to buy two benches\ units as I am changing a few things and sizes of tvs.

The best burs could be an option as it’s glossy but I could go for the other besta with all the options for other rooms.
Who knows I might just get something elsewhere and not ikea but I think it will end up being ikea I go with as less hassle and always stocks.

Some places just offer delivery and silly wait or delivery times and what happened to the days you could walk into a store and walk out with it or be delivered next day.

Amart maybe an option but most stores don’t have stocks in in stores and some items not got reviews which puts me off.

  • Personally I would go visit a few OP Shops and see what they have in stock. You can, always, paint something white.

  • Some yrs ago when the missus was getting me to distress old furniture we picked up, we got this nice wooden cabinet from some dude who was moving OS from the eastern suburbs Sydney for next to no $ … it had the bit for a older type telly and a bunch of hidey holes and CD holder thingoes … which woman person put her big feckin crystal crap on for display and the TV went on top, I like my TV's up a bit as looking downwards gives me a headache as I fell 10 feet onto my head when I was 11, speared the ground and forked my neck vertebra and probably me brains, if I wasn't a skinny runt with no fat and ribs stickin out like a starving Ethiopian child I rekon I'd have broken me neck and be dead by now!

Look at stuff on Ebay Gumtree marketplace in your post code

    • Yes I been looking at that but not knowing what make they are,or if your getting a good price or a cheap nasty one, and seller asking heaps.
Not only that not knowing the make and what weight it will take etc. yes good if has a name to it then you know what they actually cost and figure if worth buying and you can at least check what weight it takes.
But some advertising and you ask they don’t know what make or name it is.

  • I think I will go for this one for a 65 inch in bedroom, looks ok from vids on YouTube and reviews are pretty good.
Even a guy has a 85 inch on it but must be a light tv and probably just fits the unit.

    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/brimnes-tv-bench-black-90409891…

My 75 inch will have very little left of this in put on it and might look odd and most importantly the 72 inch will be to heavy for this one going by ikea max weight.

I still have a few other options than just ikea for the 72inch and places I found I can visit but this on hold for 3 weeks as going away.
