Mazda 3 Price Increase for Existing Orders

I placed an order for a Mazda 3 last December and the dealership kept on delaying the delivery date.
Now they are trying to pass close to $3000 price increase to me. Anyone else in the same boat?

You have the right to terminate the contract including full refund if they are changing the original terms.

  • Ay caramba kurumba!

Not buying a car at this time of the world myself but this is quite common these days.

    Welcome to Toyota as well

You can either pay it, and keep the order, or cancel and get a refund. There is no other option available to you

    • This is exactly what I found out today about my order. The dealer said extra $1000 for the Corolla.

      • Yep as of July

  • That’s inflation for you - plus they’ve got plenty of orders and don’t need to discount to sell cars.

Sucks, but it probably said subject to variation in your original contract.

  • Pretty much all manufactures are passing on price increases. Mitsubishi has also started doing this as of 2 weeks ago.

I have a written (email ) from the dealership stating that they are not passing the price increases to me but they absorb it if there is any.
So I guess sales people can provide any lies in written format with no obligation as per the Australian law.

So call them out on it! Talk to the dealership, show the email

I know I wouldn't be caught dead making statements like that, that's for sure!

The email means nothing. What's in the contract you signed?

      • They only shared me the first page where all the financial figures are. That does not include the terms and conditions.

        • You signed a contract without seeing the terms & conditions, or you signed a contract and have not been given a full copy of it?

    $3k for a Mazda 3.

Must have been a top of the line with all the bells and whistles.

  • No this is the base model

      Obtain a refund & buy a Toyota

    • That is a rort.

  • Same boat as you. Also ordered a base model. They can't even give me a concrete ETA, how about yourself?

To be honest, I'm considering canceling and ordering a Hyundai i30 but there's also a few months wait time for it.

    • My original delivery date is 30th March 2023 and they kept on extending and the latest is early August.

As long as people keep buying with these crazy prices and delays, nothing will change

Never order a car, go in and negotiate what is in stock.
I negoiated, bought and took delivery of a brand new a Corolla hatch in January with signifiant discount and all in the same day. Once you are locked into an order you have no negotiating power and dealers know it. I think it should be illegal as it is basically a form of drip pricing.

    • Is your hatch the facelifted one? I assume it wasn't a top-spec one.

I wouldn't have been able to do that for my Corolla ZR hybrid sedan.

      • Base model, it is never vaklue for money to buy anything other than the base model version. The inclusions are not worth the price and are pure profit for delers.

If you got a 'significant discount', highly unlikely it was the facelifted model then.

I never buy the base model. Nicer steering wheel (not plastic like the base one), fully digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable seats with lumbar support, rims that base model buyers want for their own car, and of course the sunroof (which is the main reason I bought mine).

        • 😂 Pure profit? You're kidding right?

Jees treat yourself one day. Not everyone wants to drive around in the povo, rental spec

        • Say that about every clapped out 318i out there.

    • Only if the car you are after is not desirable. Most of the desirable cars, the one in stock is highly marked up and they won't negotiate.

    • Can I ask what the percentage of discount you were able to negotiate? I know before Covid 10% is pretty normal but with the current demand for the cars buyer have less bargaining power.

Not sure on the laws but seems pretty scummy to take a deposit and then increase the price after and demand more

Haven't heard of the new home build issues either huh?

  • Bottomline is OP they know and I know if you don't pay it . The car will still fly out of the showroom to somebody else who will pay it.
    Thats Biz :)
    Maximize that profit baby !
