How to Remove TPG Settings from The TP-Link VX420-G2H Wi-Fi 6 Modem/Router?

Got this TP Link wireless router with SIM slot supplied by TPG for their 4G Home Wireless internet service. I've left TPG and kept the modem, have done a factory reset, and put in a Lebara SIM. Even after a factory reset the TPG and Vodafone settings remain, but I have been able to manually delete them and get the Lebara SIM to work. The issue is on the next reboot the TPG settings will come back and until I delete them the Lebara 4G SIM won't connect.

Has anyone had any luck with resetting this modem and completely stripping anything to do with TPG and Vodafone? TPG say it's NOT locked to their network but can't seem to get rid of the legacy TPG and Vodafone settings. Also can't seem to find a firmware for it on the TP Link site.

If it's like other TPG devices, there is a hidden su account with extra admin pages. On those pages it is probably configured to auto fetch the config from TPG. The admin account has less privileges than the su account. Don't know that device specifically, so just a guess.

    • Thanks for the info. If someone knows how to log on with the SU account to remove them I'd appreciate if you can let me know how to do it.

      • Did you get it to work?

I have the same router, and want to move to FTTP instead of 4G.

This page shows how to reset a similar router back to factory defaults, which (I think) should remove the TPG settings: https://help.iinet.net.au/how-factory-reset-iinet-modems#VX4…

My VX420G2H has the exact same settings screen as shown in the above link. I haven't tried it yet, as my new FTTP internet isn't active yet. I'd like to keep my 4G working until the FTTP is active!

  • Find clean firmware for that model and re-flash it.

    • I've been looking for one but can't seem to find one. I've emailed TP-Link technical support to ask them where I can get it because it's not even listed on their website.

This is the one I have - https://service-provider.tp-link.com/vdsl/vx420-g2h/

      • Did you end up finding the firmware?

        • No but I now have a More 5G SIM in it and it’s wanting fine. TPG profiles still there but it seems to work ok so for me, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

  • Cant flash it usually locked to isp as they include it in there package my issue with this router is the upload was locked a 5mbps only way to stop it from updating firmware is the reset router and using lan connected not internet to specify a dud dns so it doesnt update firmware gl just buy ur own router the shit they do with them is annoying af

    • The router doesn't seem to be locked. I have a More 5G SIM in mine (Telstra 5G) but it's running at 4G since it's a 4G LTE modem. At my place, speed not as good but at my brother's place I get 150Mbps down and 40Mbps up, so it doesn't seem to be locked.
