New Invention Bug A Salt Shotgun Fly Killer USD $30 Delivered or USD $55 for 2 Delivered

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I'm sure some of you out there already have heard about this innovative invention… I just thought I'll share it incase some may not have heard of it..

There seems to be quite a buzz at the moment with this :P And from the videos, this salt shotgun does seem to kill flies…. in a very very fun way!

I guess it would be a bargain if we can get 2 or 6 or 12 people to buy in a group as the price gets cheaper that way… otherwise I reckon $30 for me isn't too bad… (only I want a confirmation if this could stun or kill wolf spiders too or not)

Great for a Christmas present… and those horrid aussie summer flies… <cocks gun>

    Coolest…thing….ever!!!

  • Sounds good.
I bought an electric flyswatter from England which stunned/killed their flies easily, but our flies just get angry.. they might just shrug the salt off too.

    • Ordered a couple of those as well and customs confiscated them …
Are these salt shotguns customs safe ?

      • +1

You never know with that mob.

    • Australian flies are macho compared to flies in england. Or maybe their bigger size means more electrical resistance.

    • +1

You can find these locally for $10+ shipped. No need to go through customs and no issues with confiscation. We've found that the state of the stunned flies varies with the charge remaining in the batteries - fresh batteries will kill, fry (with sparks!) and occasionally cause a pop :S , but slightly run down batteries merely stun and incapacitate them long enough to throw them out a window, they often recover soon after and fly off.

Salt gun sounds like fun, until you have to clean up??

      • squatting flies have to clean up too but yeah i guess the salt sprayed u just have to vacuum it… but mind you… its only a pinch of salt so probably no big deal

oh my god this is awesome

  • Supposedly there are five purchasers in the last half hour. Come on, own up … who here bought one?

  • How could it be risky? Oh wait, they're not even manufactured yet :-)

  • i dont think this is going to be easy to hit a fly, i think you would have to have good aim which you can already buy fly guns that work well for a couple of bucks.

this one I paid $4 for.

    • How far can that ebay one accurately shoot? (without the string)

  • +1

The name confused me until I saw the product.

Don't really think this is a bargain though, maybe something more suited for the forums.

  • Whats the difference between this and my 12 gauge?

    • +3

this seasons your cakes, biscuits and coffee too

      • Pass the salt please….

    • +3

This is more socially acceptable to use when the bugs are around people/pets/your house.

      • Salt shotguns for the whole family == happy fun times.

Remington 12 Gauge for the whole family == Re-enaction of the Port Arthur massacre.

  • Need to be pretty damn close to the fly!

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • Watching this video has reignited the nerf modder in me. Full auto stampede with gravity fed hopper, enough for 1kilo of salt? 8)

    • YUP… a functional nerf alternative…. which probably gets the green light for us to use around the house lol.

Was just thinking… this would be awesome at camps and around bbqs!!

    • Pics, or it didn't happen.

      • It hasn't happened….. Yet… ;-)

Please be aware that this is not an e-commerce site, just a fundraising site. No one who has "ordered" their BugASalt has received it yet. Their site even says that they will only being shipping in September (without giving a firm date) I would wait until others have actually started to receive their products before parting with your cash.

Negative vote from me. These kickstarted type sites offer you no buyer protection and too many people have lost out in the past.

    Edit:
From their own terms and conditions: "Any Perks offered to you are between you and the Project Entity only, and Indiegogo does not guarantee that Perks will be delivered or satisfactory to you." (http://www.indiegogo.com/about/terms)

Good thought! That's why I like Ozbargain because people here gives constructive opinions to consider!
Do you think paying by paypal will offer buyers some sort of protection?

Also the video of the process, and news coverage overseas its getting and also the amount of contributors (I still can't believe its $377,434 for a $15,000 goal), hopefully instil some sort of confidence in this.

And maybe they didn't expect so many orders so I'm guessing that's why there's not firm shipping date yet.

Paypal will offer no protection. You are simply giving them a "contribution" not purchasing a product. I'm sure that with the money raised this will be on sale via a legit website very soon. However until that time, it's buyer beware. Check out this page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/zioneyez/eyeztm-by-zione… for the Eyez™ by ZionEyez HD. They raised over $300,000. No-one received anything !! Scammed !! So really be careful. It HAS happened before. I think that this post should be removed by the mods, but ah well.

        • true… but as you can see in that campaign… their video was quite lame.. we didnt even get to see the prototype working… the guy only showed parts of broken video cameras lol.

Edit: their campaign was in its infancy stage and no suggestion of production stage nor shipping estimates..

  • Paypal may not but I'm fairly certain you'll be covered if you pay directly with a CC that has buyer protection.

It is cheaper to hit the fly with rubber band. I could hit one 2 meters away at 80% accuracy.

Anyone care to explain why this is a bargain? When the Ouya console from Kickstarter got banished to the forums it was understandable. This thing isn't even half as useful either. Sheesh!

  • The Ouya Console finished its goals and they are developing it.I heard of design friends actually working for that company from my brother. that's not a scam.

Edit: plus with the ouya, you can still preorder after the goal is reached but the price is more expensive than preordering before goal was reached.

I'm guessing this bug gun will cost $40 retail by judging from their price lineup. That's why its mentioned that buying with 2 or more people is probably more worth it

Kick starter is not a bargain shop- No delivery date really specified. Very untested and unknown products.. Really should be in the forums.

Cool product but to many unknowns

  • This is a great post and great information. BUT it's not a "Bargain"

    1. Its not even a shipping product as yet
    2. We have no defined price to compare with
    3. As the OP mentions the only way to get a "bargain" is for a group buy
    4. The price is a "donation" to a start up, so if product doesnt ship, you cant get a refund as per normal bargains

None of the above is criticism of the product, its just that it doesnt fit being a bargain as per our norm.

Great information and thanks for the share. It belongs here in the forums

Depends if they can deliver. They could have just said sorry can't deliver take all your monies. This is how people get scammed. I have too much faith in the world sigh…. people believe the stupidest of things they read on the internet.

The instant these things are on the mass market I'm taking down all of my flyscreens…

  • +2

2 of these with a pack of chilli powder and i am the next super hero.

    • Try crushing tungsten carbide balls into powder and using that, mod it so that the safety is never really on :)
      Then you've got yourself a mini-plastic shotgun :D

  • really want this(even 2nd hand) but seem like they are refunding to ALL Australian customer as they can't send it to AU
