Looking for a Bargain on a 6ft Fish Tank / Aquarium

We are looking to purchase a 6ft tank for our turtle and from what I have seen they are bloody expensive.

If anyone has any tips or knows of any shops around Melbourne that would be awesome

Thanks folks.

Sharketplace and scamtree will be your best bet.

    • That's what I was thinking too but I heard that if they aren't sealed properly or if they're worn then it's a pain in the ass / expensive to fix

Hence they're so much cheaper used. Plenty guides on how to check and clean used tanks if you want to go down that route.

Also pay attention to salt or freshwater setups. Avoid mixing prior and future uses if you can.

I would reseal a secondhand tank before you add water.

6ft fish tank sounds a lot like a see through coffin.

OP….google some popular Australian aquarium hobbyist forums.

Often they will have a classifieds section.

I have been out of the hobby for years but these chaps are often more genuine, knowledgeable and helpful.

Often many are downsizing or closing or reshuffling their set ups etc, these guys will also have lots of livestock and plants.

Used to be a member of Auqariumlife but its gone I think, great community that were happy to share.

  • What state are you in? There is a place I bought my 4 foot tank for my turtle in VIC that was pretty good on pricing.

  • Don't know if you are still looking, but the Nillumbik reclaim shop (at the gate of the tip) has a big tank and stand for $60 atm. Might need some new silicone and a clean, but also comes with light and a couple of other things.

    • That's not too far from where I am actually. Might check it out. Thanks for the "tip" ;)

We actually found a big tank on someones nature strip but I suspect it needs new silicone as well. Just not sure if I should give it a go myself or not…. don't want to stuff it up and end up with a flooded lounge room

  • 6 foot tanks are not expensive…

Gumtree will give you an idea. Rarely are there silicone issues with tanks, more likely to gave scratches on the glass.

You likely want a 6x2x2 tank which is very heavy to transport and for your floor.
