Can Inflation Be Controlled if OzB Website Is down for a Month?

As inflation keeps sky rocketing and people spend buying things they don't need (and majority or part of contribution is from the jaw dropping deals we keep getting on OzB).

A fun post to see your views if inflation can really be controlled if Ozb site is down for a month?

Trollers, advisors , postive feedbackers all welcome,

No, inflation is a relative measure of how much prices have risen. It does not measure of the utility of the things we buy, so whether the stuff you buy is useful or not, nor the quantity you buy affect inflation. Most purchases we make from OzB are unusually cheap compared to normal, hence the "bargain" part. This in turn will drive down inflation instead? Just my personal opinion. Full disclosure, I am not an economist.

Spend less, companies earn less, they lower prices, inflation goes poof

      • Or lower prices, people buy more, inflation goes poof?

I don't think inflation figures take into account advertised prices, ie. if you raise your prices and nobody buys, I don't think that gets recorded. It only gets recorded when someone buys at the inflated prices.

        • Why would a company lower their prices if they are earning more when prices are higher?

          • @askbargain: If their prices are high, they wouldn't be listed as a deal on OzB?

Can Inflation Be Controlled if OzB Website Is down for a Month?

              No,

To you it doesn't matter if it's on OzB or not???

If there's disposable income, then there will be inflation.

  • I'm more than happy to pay less for childcare, rent or mortgage; except, theyre inflexible.
Any other cost adjustment i make is actually irrelevant when compared to the magnitude of the others.

If YES wins is there going to be a democratic response from management? (1 months shutdown)

Mind you, If the ACCC did their job we'd be way better off. They are soft on gougers. Fuel, electricity, food, other.
For those who say some of these are NOT in their contract, there have been plenty of times they have sought greater powers. But they are weak AP on the biggest hits to hip pockets. Everyone knows self regulation and these toothless ombudsman structures like the TIO etc don't affect or enable change for the benefit of consumers. You only have to look at Telcos like TPG to know they don't give a FRA about customers.

If the website is taken down, I'm going to be paying full price for shit I don't even need.

How would you know what to buy if the website went down?

I check ozbargain whenever I get emails in my spam folder. Economists hate me

If OzB were to shut down all that means is P-Hub goes back to the #1 in Australia for 30 days.

  • No. The biggest spender in the country, i.e. Government, never use OzBargain.

It might help if www.OzBuy10xRRP.com.au is shutdown though.

We're the ones fighting inflation! We are the ones avoiding the companies that are greedily inflating the prices and directing our spending towards sales with lower margins.

We'll all have to move to TopBargains 😖

    • I vaguely remember seeing a mention of JVbargain with affiliates welcome. I'll be moving there.

  • No. Ozbargain saves money and reduces spending. All the popular high end products, don't need it - bought in any way, thanks - bought 10, buy now - think later are an exception to the rule and not the norm.

Calls to action like "Ozbargain Unite and Lowball all the Stupid High Sellers" have had a massive impact and helped reduce inflation.

Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.

        It did say trolling welcome.

  • When people spend money buying merchandise from sellers who need to clear out overstocked inventory, it can have both short-term and long-term effects on inflation.

In the short term, if sellers need to clear out their inventory quickly, they may offer discounts and sales to attract buyers. This can lead to a temporary decrease in prices for those specific goods. However, if the overall demand for goods and services in the economy remains strong, these temporary decreases may not have a significant impact on the overall inflation rate.

In the long term, sustained high levels of consumer spending can contribute to inflation. When there is a strong demand for goods and services, sellers may increase their prices to take advantage of the increased demand. This can lead to an overall rise in prices across the economy, resulting in inflationary pressures.

It's important to note that the impact of consumer spending on inflation is influenced by various factors such as the overall state of the economy, monetary policy, production capacity, and supply chain dynamics. Additionally, inflation is a complex phenomenon influenced by multiple factors, and consumer spending is just one component of the overall inflationary environment.

    Reserve Bank of Australia

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) would like to inform the public that, in line with our ongoing efforts to manage inflation and ensure the stability of the Australian economy, we have taken the decision to temporarily shut down the OzBargain website for a period of one month, starting from June 15, 2023.

During the one-month shutdown period, the RBA will closely monitor the impact of this decision on consumer behavior and inflationary pressures. This temporary measure will allow us to evaluate the extent to which OzBargain's influence affects consumer spending patterns and assess the overall impact on inflation. This analysis will help inform our future policies and interventions aimed at managing inflation effectively.

Correct this website and all of its deals are the main source of inflation in the economy

    • Not enough

Discounted giftcard portals and Cashback sites All shut down

  • I'd say no. The OzBargain website gets a lot of internet traffic, over 28 million visits per month.

Thats just visitors. If you know the the sales pipeline that doesn't translate to 28 million purchases. Then look into the demographics and probably over half the traffic is from non-residents from overseas.

Part of the the inflation is from businesses that are price gouging (eg. Airlines). OzBargain has a super minor effect on negating price gouging. But OzBargain can't temper demand. Eg. Deter people from wanting to travel overseas on cruise ships and airlines.

All shutting down OzBargain would do is reduce a few die hard OzBargain consumers making a months worth of extra purchases. Regular consumers would still want what they want and still buy and price compare/research.

  • That was fun, thanks.
