3 cups will last myself alone a day

      Rice is life

Thanks op luckily the 6 cup that was posted earlier in the week wasn't on sale at Docklands Costco - the 3 cup was more suitable.

    • +1

I was going back and forth between a 3 and 6 cup and went with a 6-cup, and don't regret it. Depending on the price difference, but I got the 6-cup from Costco for about $150 which is only $20 than this 3-cup and worth it when you have more than 3-people over at one time (eg; big family gathering). With a 3-cup cooker you might need to cook 2 lots which is annoying but if you just need a 3-cup you'll be happy with this one.

I’m downsizing from a six cup as I usually cook for one and don’t get the best results cooking one cup in a six cup cooker.

  • We have this. It's good, although the nooks and crannies in the frame that the lid rests on is very hard to clean - rice grains often end up there and it's hard to fish them out.

It's also unfortunate that it doesn't have a white rice setting - you just use the "mixed grain" setting which is fine once you figure it out.

I'm pretty sure the default settings, Glutinous (more sticky) and Turbo are default white rice setting. Try using 1 cup of rice to 1 water ratio, if you prefer your rice to be more fluffier maybe slightly less water even.

      • Thanks, we will try that.

  • Does this do something different to a $14 kmart rice cooker? (Which I have)

    • Just read this post https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9yqmql00 so I see there is a quality difference if you eat a lot of rice.

      • +1

you don't need to eat a lot of rice to see and feel the quality difference. you can tell from the first bite you put in your mouth.

One issue i had with cheapo rice cooker was its inability to control heat or moisture. For example, you can't really purposely undercook rice for fried rice it would just fry the bottom. the current induction cooker i have, I could do that and it tastes just like overnight rice.

I had a Kmart Rice cooker and also have the 6-cup version of this rice cooker.

Probably not enough to justify the price - but my model of the Cuckoo Ricecooker has a chip that claims to monitor how cooked the rice is. Since buying it, I haven't had a bad serving of rice. The Kmart one I would say 1/5 cooks I would have too dry rice so I suspect it's threshold for correct water-to-rice levels is much lower than a Cuckoo rice cooker.

    • i'm not too sure about this specific rice cooker but recently i got Xiaomi's induction cooker, upgraded from shitty $30 amazon cooker.

i could taste each grain when i eat, it's cooked just right. Not mushy but not too hard either.

  • Wanting to get a new rice cooker after using kmart one for more than 7 years. Which was fine.

But since I moved to new place thinking iof upgradeing. This looks suitable for me. Usually just cooking for one or two.

Just wondering if the xiaomi induction rice cooker is better choice though.

i have the xiaomi one, bought for around this place. only downside is everything is written in mandarin (at least for my copy). I am a native mandarin speaker so it's fine for me.

I'm very happy with this product, best investment i have ever made. it makes a really good porridge too, and it's the Teo Chew style (more watery)

I have the xiaomi ih rice cooker, function wise its great, but the non stick coating on the inner pot start popping up with only 6 months of usage, note that I rinse the rice in a separate bowl and never use metal utensils on it. Ebay seller agreed to replace the inner pot for me.

If the replaced inner pot fails again I am just going to get myself a japanese clay pot to cook rice.

        • what do you mean by popping up? as in flaking?

mine's a bit scratched up already even though i've only used plastic utensils and a very soft sponge.

          • @dukeGR4: No flaking just bubbles on the inside.

Yea mine is pretty scratched up too with only plastic utensil and soft sponge.

I think its just the quality of the non stick coating.

Hopefully there is a stainless pot to replace.

    alternatively….just use a pot!

    • I am using Amazon instant pot with stainless steel pot for better healthy cook

  • So can this cook 3 cups of raw rice? Dont really understand how sizing works

    • yes that's right, plus the water required for those 3 cups.

that's 6 servings of white rice or 3-4 servings of fried rice. it's more than enough for a family of 4-5.

Great timing, thanks. I nearly bought this yesterday. The bowl on our Zojirushi is starting to wear out, and getting a replacement bowl from Japan costs more than a new Cuckoo.

Note: although Amazon lists the retail as $179, it's available on the Cuckoo website for $159 which seems to be the standard price

    • Good point. The Cuckoo website price also includes free delivery like the Amazon special does so worth keeping in mind when the Amazon deal expires.

zojirushi is uncle rogers rice cooker of choice, haiya.

are you going to get emotional damage changing?

        Interesting

The supposed tolerent ozbargainers dislike chinese comedians on youtube.

Will start negging so much stuff now.

  • Mine has arrived. Manual could do with clearer wording lol.

Anyone know if this is an induction cooker? Say it wants an outlet that can handle more than 15a, but the plug doesn't appear to be a high load one. (I wanna put energy monitoring plug on it)
