The Current Input Timing Is Not Supported by The Monitor Display

Does anyone know how to fix this error?

"The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display. Please change your input timing to 3840x2160, 60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specifications."

Surface Laptop 4 + Microsot USB-C Travel Hub; both meant to support 4K60.

Obviously connecting direct to HDMI works but why doesn't it work through the adapter?

Can anyone recommend which hub/dock to buy?

It's telling you to switch it to 4k60, not saying that 4k60 doesn't work. your pc may have defaulted to a higher refresh rate.

Go to System settings —> Display —> Advanced display. Make sure you have the correct external display selected and then update the "choose a refresh rate" to the value closest to 60Hz

    • Have tried that, doesn't change anything.

The strangest part is that Teams shows me the second screen and windows in that screen to share but the monitor doesn't display!

  • Just to clarify is this a single or dual monitor arrangement?

    • Single.

Surface Laptop 4 > Travel Hub > Dell G3223Q (sorry didn't mention that in original post).

    • try a different cable.

      • Tried that too :(

  • Could it be the horizontal timings? maybe in the Intel control center (search for Intel Graphics in start menu)?

    • I installed this but couldn't find that setting?

I could not find it either, used to be in custom resolutions. Looks like the new version of intel control panel is dumbed down.
There is an article here from 2021 that shows how to get it back: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000125286/why-custo…

You could probably try that and see if playing around with timing options changes something. Here is a screenshot from my Nvidia control panel (i recall the intel one had very similar settings): https://imgur.com/a/F09p977

If i mess up the Timing options in my Nvidia CP, I get a similar message as yours on my external monitor.

Tried everything to get to that spot, can't get there :(

EDIT: Got the Beta version of the command center and it lets me change the resolution now. So I changed to 1080p and it works! Now for the life of me can't get 4K but we're getting close.

Adapter might be faulty if direct HDMI works

It's the adapter, I tried with an old uGreen 4k30hz and it works so looks like it doesn't like the Microsoft Travel Hub.

Strangely, it was working fine with my old Dell 2K and on other monitors so not sure what's going wrong.

  • Got it working with https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BN6S3ZNV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_…

    Also getting 144Hz.

    Thanks to all that helped.
