Amazon Account Locked for No Reason

I have been using this account since they first opened in Australia.
Ordered multiple times, all went well.
In fact, I have been using it on Amazon JP as well since 2008 or so.

On last Thursday 1/June I ordered a pair of shoes, paid by gift card (from cashreward)
then on Friday 2/June, they've locked me out.

"Account Closed
Your account has been closed for misuse of Amazon's services. We have sent you an email with additional information."

But I have never received a single email from them.
And I've no idea how I misused their service.
I've only returned a faulty item once over the years.
So I called their CS number 1800 571 894, 3 times already, on 2/Jun, 5/Jun and 7/Jun
Every time they tell me their account team will send me an email with some verification questions, and they will unlock my account after I reply that Email.
The problem is, my Gmail has never received it.
The CS hotline staff admit that they still haven't sent that email out…

Is there anyone had faced the same issue like above and how did you get your account back?
Thanks.

Any suspicious activities recently? changed address? new credit card? do you have a habit of requesting refunds?

While my delivery goes to 2-3 different addresses,
I've always use gift card to pay.
As I said, only 1 return over the years.
The problem is, I've never receive any emails.

  • The return, was it recent and value of refund?

    • no that was Sep last year and it was a replacement, not refund.
It was a faulty lawn mower.
I guess that is not relevant to current situation.

I would suggest to confirm the email address associated with your account

      I can't even sign in.
When I spell out my email to CS Hotline, they can see my account is on hold.
So my email address is correct.

Only add eGC when need it. Keep the balance under $5.

    • +1

this exactly, i dont understand why people keep hundreds or thousands sitting on their amazon account

    • That's why I do as well, there is around $7 balance at the moment.

    • Where do you recommend to store until you actually have to add them?

      • +2

Open a folder or create a label in your mailbox
        something like "unused GC"
throw all your digital code gift card emails into it
        delete the email after use

Also everytime when you purchase in advance, always look for the smallest denomination,
i.e. if a shopback deal requires you to buy $100, go get 10x$10 instead of 1x$100
so that there won't be excessive remaining balance sitting in your account.

Once you get banned from Amazon…..just move on with another account. It's hard baked into their system that requires some data engineer to reverse it, not worth wasting hours going Karen on them for little gain.

    • +3

The issue is that some banned accounts may have hundreds if not thousands giftcard balance.

      • If you had hundreds or thousands in gift card balance, surely you'd escalate to ACCC or Ombudsman to show they are being dodgy by locking you out and refunding that balance?

      • +2

giftcard lol, why would you let another third party have any control over your funds for a measly 10% discount.

    Damn, that’s scary as..
I have got soo much credit sitting in mine. Maybe not a good idea, thanks for sharing.

  • Amazon customer service is garbage when it comes to sorting out anything besides the most minor of issues.
