As hinted by MeguminShiro on reddit, the clues relating to the fourth vault game match the in game scenes from Payday 2

This will be a payday for the developers, helping fund Payday 3. Payday 2 is so old I can't believe they still charge for it. I guess there's no other game quite like it.

    You're welcome: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13859769/redir

Of course they were both still guesses, and as I said in that now deleted post you made, we don't know which version it will be until it goes live and is readable. Even when it does go live, they can still change it, like Death Stranding.

Previous incorrect guesses were heavily upvoted, then removed. I have no idea why people upvote these Epic deals so much. Do we really need to be reminded it's Friday? The same with heavily upvoted streaming service deals. A video streaming service gets a video added, and often weeks after it goes live on pirate sites.

    • Payday 2 base version is definitely correct. The backend API confirmed this about 30 minutes ago. I usually post off what I see in here and not off Reddit or other sources.

I can confirm what DB said, about 50 mins ago :)

      • Yes, the readable part of my comment. This can also change, like Death Stranding. It was the director's cut, then it wasn't. They also planned to release some, I think Ark? Then delayed it, and still haven't given us that plague game, even though everyone has stopped panicking over COVID.

        • Death Stranding was based on clues in the banner image. The director’s cut was in the API and went live for a while before Epic changed it to the base version. The developers pulled ARK at the last minute.

          • @Taegukgi: Yes, that's my point. The DC was readable, and did go live, but even that is subject to change.

            • @[Deactivated]: Yet, the API will still be the best shot of confirmation, till release

              • @I Smell Pennies: Sure, and both the deal posted by the OP, that was removed as a duplicate, and the one posted after that, that incorrectly identified which version it would be, were based on guesses.

Previously, people posted guesses that weren't even the right game, let alone version, but people upvoted the shit out of them before any confirmation at all.

The game on Epic also has no DLC available, addons on the Epic store. I haven't installed it, so no idea if it includes anything or not.

but people upvoted the shit out of them before any confirmation at all

That's a given. Correct or not, it's a freebie deal (and usually freebie deals gain lots of attention).

I still agree with you that we need some sort of confirmation, but like DB, I can confirm from the code that it was Payday 2 (base) game

                • @[Deactivated]: The problem lies with Ozbargain itself. This site allows any ” guesses” to be posted and then later removes the ones that are wrong. The Pepper sites on the hand won’t allow such a deal to be published without sufficient proof eg screenshot of the API. For Ozbargain to follow the same process would require a mod to be available past midnight.

                  • @Taegukgi: This would be my preference. Obviously when Epic change it, that's unavoidable, but I remember people guessing games that never even went free.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Be prepared for guesses around the Xmas freebies. I’ll probably only post the first couple of games and then stay out of it.

    • Wait, it's Friday?! Woohoo!

    Love a good plot twist

Oh man, base Payday 2 game is really lackluster, wtf were they thinking….
Basically you are locked out of like 90% of the content using the base game only.
Legacy Collection should have been the one which was given away for free.

My brothers in Christ will have to force themselves to use basegame-only guides for literally everything! :(

The good thing is that you do not need any DLC to get even the most overpowered builds but that just makes everything incredibly tedious.

I mean we really could have changed the original deal in Scrooge's post to remove the words legacy edition.

  • +8

Who cares who was right. How about no deals which are just guesses. Save it until it's confirmed.

And I thought OP edited his deal to be the legacy edition after the other dude posted?

      • +1

I don't understand what's going on. But why did yours get removed. And this remain here.
This just makes no sense to me but two people posting the same deal then the newer one remains is not normal practice… I actually have no idea what happened here

But also agree speculation aren't things that should be posted.

        • +1

Scrooge’s deal was titled incorrectly and I was the original poster that had the Payday 2.

Yes, I totally agree with you that sources and guesses shouldn’t be posted, however all sites that I checked pointed to the base game, not too sure which source that Scrooge checked lead to the Legacy Edition

Until I can see it in the API files, which confirms the freebie for the last vault game for today

          • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Its all good. Your link showed the deal posted on 6th hence why I made that comment but all of this was a bit unusual. So moving forward I think to stop that, only confirmed deals. Not even highly likely deals, should be posted.
It just didn't look good all the toing and froing.

It's all good. I was wrong, Legacy Collection it's not included. Very disappointing Epic vault game just the game with no DLC. The game was on sale on steam just until yesterday for $2. I thought the Legacy Collection would be included because in the clues it shows the Sokol maskwhich an exact match to the clue. The only DLC package that has that included it's the Legacy Collection.

  • I just checked on Steam for the first time in years to see a ton of DLC I thought I should own, because I bought the Ultimate Edition that was advertised to include all DLC in the future.

Had to Google and I found that they renamed it after they sold it, to Legacy Edition and reneged the DLC inclusion after selling it.

    • That's poor. I have played Payday 1 & 2 and they were fun but not fun enough to keep paying over and over again. I can't even remember if P1 had DLC, perhaps minimal?

Microtransactions ruined the gaming industry. I miss the days when you bought a game once and kept the full version forever.

      • +1

From what I can gather they took responsibility for reneging and admitted it explicitly, they said they had no choice and would go bankrupt befor PD3 could be finished.

Whether or not that is entirely true, or fair that we are paying for their future product development with broken promises already paid for is up in the air.

It's also a consideration whether we would have still gotten the DLC, had they not been able to charge for it. Overall I'm on the fence about the whole thing.

I do agree that individual piecemeal DLC's are meant to look consumer friendly but are both more expensive and more complicated/messy.

I would have preferred the old system of expansions, maybe a yearly with several campaigns etc. The problem with these companies is they can't manage their money in a way that allows for the largest income one month per year. In addition to that they don't have the marketing budget to sustain periodical sales etc.

Regardless, I like yearly expansions and it's the only thing I pay for with Elder Scrolls Online.

Tripwire pull the same shame card about imminent bankruptcy caused by people buying their games (Killing Floor 1 & 2). Their remedy was to paywall weapons, character skins and animations that should have been included as part of the game's QoL updates.

      • P1 had minimal DLC (a couple of maps, maybe a weapon pack?)

P2 had (and has) it up the wazoo. One day there'll be a case study taught on how Payday "got DLC right" by basically dropping paid packs at the right intervals and staying engaged with the community… right up to the point in time when everyone in the gaming industry was sick of DLC and then devs went to season passes.

You couldn't replicate it today (because we're sick of microtransactions) but the bank they made with weapon packs and level addons was truly staggering.

    • Sounds like any time you buy a lifetime license to software. Before too long the developers stop adding new features to it and release software under a new version name or new name entirely or introduce a pro version which will get the new features from now on.

  • So the other people were talking out of their arses like usual about which version of Payday this would be lol?

  • +2

Why is everyone going nuts over who posts what deal? Do people get paid for posting deals or something?

Ozb is the community that digs around and posts decent deals that are otherwise hard to find/one-off's.

Posting these epic freebies is fairly obvious - personally I just get them from the launcher as I have to get them there anyway =/

Scotty is going to give a Ferrari to whoever gets the most deal upvotes by the end of the year.
