Rear View Camera for Caravan

Hi all,

Looking for recommendations on a rearview camera for a caravan. Would prefer wireless, but happy to go wired. Unsure if wireless ever has issues or not being most are on 2.4GHZ.

19ft Caravan on a 2021 Ford Ranger.

Cheers!!

  • Mine came with Sphere wired 2 camera system. Picture quality so so and the rear view camera was the same wide angle as the reversing. (135 degrees)
I’ve replaced the rear camera with a Safety Dave 45degree and it’s better.
Safety Dave say their monitor is better than the Sphere, but I don’t know.
Wired probably a bit more PITA to install, but pretty reliable.
If doing it again I would be going Safety Dave wired I guess but I have zero experience of the wireless.
BTW you still need towing mirrors to be legal on that combo and rear cameras are useless in the rain and even worse on wet dirt roads.
    Safe travels

Thanks, I will have a look.

Yeah towing mirrors are included with the Van (getting it from a friend). I have a rear camera view for my canopy and yeah, it isn't good in the wet.

We had a safety Dave setup..worked well. Did manage to crush the monitor and a genuine replacement was about $250 so safety Dave sold me an adapter plug set for $5 and i bought a$50 monitor that clipped onto the rear view. That worked really well (once I got used to looking at the mirror and not seeing the caravan!). The (woza) cable connection between the car and van was prone to pinching so take care routing it (jeep grand Cherokee and 20’ semi off-road caravan)

    • Hi Roonie, how’d you find the safety Dave rear view monitor for brightness during the day? I’m in the market for something like it.

      • Fine. The original (safety dave) monitor was a 6x4(?) on a stand which I mounted on the centre console. Too low. After I crushed it, its (reflective) ebay replacement was clipped onto the rearview, which was a better ("logical"/familiar) placement. it was permanently mounted - angled towards me (switched off) when used as a mirror and angled down slightly when used as a monitor. Worked well. After the original monitor died, I mounter a garmin GPS into its old location - again, not an ideal position. After a while, I figured how to mount it on the dashtop between the instrument cluster and the A-pillar. That worked well and might have been a better home for the original monitor

        • No worries. Thanks.

19th van….what happened to the other 18? Is this why you need a Camera?

    Mwahahaha.
