How Is This Chair So Cheap on Kogan?

Hey guys,

Buying a new chair for WFH.

This chair (https://artiss.com.au/collections/office-chair/products/arti…) for $283 on Artiss website is being sold on Kogan for $58. How is this possible?

I am at the checkout page but confused. On Kogan, it says it comes with 1 year warranty. It does not say anything on Artiss.

Ideas?

Pricing error…. but you knew this already

I mean , it’s also artiss brand so it’s most likely a pos with a crazy rrp

As above, pricing error. Most likely forgot the 2 from the price.

        Order it and find out.

        • Kogan keep the money in a short term account, then refund. Win-Win

Now with interest rates as they are, it makes sense to getting errors in pricing.

On Kogan, it says it comes with 1 year warranty
    Premium PVC upholstery

another chair that will be on the kerbside in 1 year

    Sold by third party.

A price error or clearing stock.

Do yourself a favour and buy a quality chair. You're sitting on it all day and you want it to last longer than a year.

If you're buying a chair, might as well get a decent one. No point in buying a chair that will ruin your back or one that you'll replace in a year or two.

    • How long do these premium chairs last? Pure leather ones are $600+

I've had my Herman Miller chair for over 10 years old and it's still going strong! The kicker, I got it 2nd hand, so its closer to 13-14 years old.

Premium does not require them to be upholstered with leather.
But good chairs will last you many years (the good ones could last you 10 years or more, I bought an old Haworth Zody that's ~10-15 years old and it's still in pretty good condition).

Personally, I would put more of an emphasis on the ergonomics of the chair than the upholstery. But that's my preference.

We have 3 HM chairs (one Aeron, two Mirra) each over a decade old. The Mirras are ex-office chairs so all three have been used on a daily basis.

As an aside, I spent one evening playing Aeron Hockey (https://www.aeronhockey.com/), where grown men spent the night literally slamming HM chairs into each other and over the course of the event the only noticeable damage done was one single small piece of decorative plastic had fallen off a chair.

I don't understand why anyone would buy a leather office chair though- if it's warm, then sitting in a leather chair all day would suck.

Anything that even looks like the chair linked in the OP is probably a piece of garbage that's going to disintegrate in a year or two, and just screams "clueless gamer noob." I'm surprised they didn't also included LED lighting to go with the red and black colour scheme.

Just look at the design of that thing- it uses exposed nylon webbing to hold up the 'lumbar support' instead of building the support into the frame like any other decent office chair. Avoid at all costs.

Artists isn’t even worth $50. Garbage tier quality.

  • even the legs are worrying from the picture. and usually picture is heavily photoshoped to looks amazing

  • Post as a deal and watch it go OOS in seconds…

    • so many at amazon with different brand names but looks 10001% the same, prices around 120-170

  • Probably wouldn't get this for work.. This does not look ergonomic, can't imagine sitting in this for too long.

  • It is a cheapo chair…
Wouldn't be surprised if someone is dumping them.

    • I would literally use a secondhand padded dining chair over this gamer garbage.

In fact, that's exactly what I am using (a $50 chair from the dining room) typing this just to mix things up from my usual WFH chair.

    • as I mentioned below, you can see in this ebay listing the photo Kogan "mysteriously" left out…the seat is made of plywood with the base screwed into it so wont last long if you lean back on it!

    • Oneshop on Kogan = Ozplaza

OP didn't even realize that the item is sold by a third party, not Kogan itself.

It's showing as close to $300 now for me, lol

You get what you pay for. These chairs will start flaking their fake 'leather' in 3 months and be unusable.

  • Got one similar from Officeworks for $55 18 months ago was suppose to be rated for 120kg but 100kg son leaned back on it and base caved in. The metal base was screwed into what seemed to be chipboard/particle board seat base?

These types of chairs are regularly on "special" online, we have had 3 or 4 over the years as the kids grew up but wouldn't recommend at any price as they only last a short while before having to MacGyver them up.

    • Obviously he lied about his weight

    1. They are made cheap
    2. The artiss website has marked them up a lot
    3. Kogan buys runout/reject/factory second/liquidation stock and sells cheap because turnover is more important to them than healthy margins.
  • There are different brands and variants of this same design on Ozbargain for no more than $50.

I have the same chair but different brand for around $50 and you get what you pay for, had the chair for approx 1.5 months now and it's fine for me but other users say theirs broke down in a week, not so good with heavy people. I am 70kgs and it's working fine for me, nothing wrong so far.

    • It's not just going to be a matter of user weight, there will be just luck of the draw. This will not be coming out of a factory with rigorous QC processes in place- some chairs will just happen to be sturdier than others.

That's part of the cost of 'real' brands- quality control cost money run.

do you like posting stupid and racist comments?

      • In this case, it happens to be true. Same with a lot of other products (e.g. Heymix, which is the OzB anti-darling).

  • So many rubes = seller's market. See Instant Pot for proof.

  • If you want a solid, comfortable, chair built to last go no further than here …

    … great collection.

I'm sitting in one now … an Elite model.

  • Picked one up for $50 of Ali, plenty of variations of this same chair made in the same Chinese factory selling for $45 +. Do your homework before buying.
