How to Approach This Travel Insurance Question?

Hi guys,

Me and my partner and our 4 friends (6 of us in total) would like to travel together to Thailand next year and stay in a villa.
How can we cover ourselves, if something were to go wrong? Only one of us can pay for it, but cc insurance would only cover me and my partner.

Would any paid insurances cover our whole group (if one or more people are unable to travel etc)?

We all plan to use different credit cards to get travel insurance. All of the villas are non-refundable through booking.com (either totally non-refundable or refundable until 2 months before the beginning of the stay).

How do people usually approach this from insurance perspective?

Everyone buy their own insurance, less headache.

Ifyou're using cc insurance, each has its own pds. Get everyone of your friends to read whatever pds for their cc.

Your doing it wrong. This is Ozbargain. Best to save your insurance questions until after an event or incident.

Better have an MS Paint diagram ready to go too

    • Yes, like the ones "I've just had an accident overseas and need to buy insurance to cover the hospital bills".

    Me and my partner

    "My partner and I"

  • Solo Traveller = Me, myself and I,

  • Most insurers won't offer cover (ie sell you a policy) once you have left the country. So get it sorted beforehand.

I prefer to buy insurance and not rely on the credit card ones. Not every credit card insurance is good so should read the psa and see what it does and does not cover and compare with what is important to you.

  • Get your own insurance, don't worry about your friends, they can get theirs as well. You can suggest you got X insurance but I wouldn't even bother researching group insurance.

Credit card insurances are generally not the best. Read the PDS and you'll be surprised what's not covered and the conditions that are on it.

Go with a reputable provider , don't get one of those resold ones eg Coles or aus post. They may seem cheap but their claim:loss ratio has more stringent conditions in it so you'll be rejected for claims much easier than a reputable mob and they will have exclusions all over the place.

Get protection for you and your partner. Everyone else is shit out of luck, they need to sort themselves out.

Do not travel without protection. There are so many stories of people being stuck without it and they can't get home or have $100k bills
