    Bread has too many carbs.

      Carbs are yummy

    • I rip out the HYDRO and leave the carb behind!

      Bread has too much carbs.

  • Coles freshly baked tiger rolls… yummo.

    • I haven't tried the Coles version however the straight outta the oven tiger rolls at the local Vietnamese bakery are divine.

  • any soft bread, have no teeth. eg damper rolls

OK … so damper rolls are good with false teefs?

Iver found that bread is very similar to pizzas where nothing compares to a local small shop, My local bakery's bread is mouthwatering literally.

    • indeed. most pizza places are selling slop and then throwing on way too many toppings, but that's what's in demand apparently.

      • Barely anywhere makes fresh dough anymore, it's just as easy to buy premade bases myself, whack on some pre-shredded toppings and throw it in the oven.

I really miss my grandmothers pizza from when I was a kid, she had some dough she could make in minutes then top with whatever was in the fridge. The bread made it delicious no matter what was on top.

    • THIS! I tend to buy sourdough from a bakery rather than Coles/Woolies

For supermarket sourdough I like the Coles variety but would prefer to go to a bakery

And slice the bread up yourself, it stays fresher that way

We make our own bread using live sourdough starter. It’s at least as good as the ones in most stores, cheaper, and more variety because we make it with different combinations of grains/fruits. Put it in the freezer straight after slicing it, and it always tastes fresh.

  • Lawson's white is excellent for sandwich press toasted sandwiches. Good size and thickness.
    cheese ham tomato onion mmmm
    .

    • Raw onion or do you precook it?

      • +1

nope, I like crunchy red onion the most
        .

    Never buy pre sliced bread

    Other than sandwich bread.

    cant beat fresh bakery bread

    • My bakery doesn't use preservatives, so you gotta eat it day one or freeze it.

      • Yeah I am flat out getting to day 2 with bakery bread

      • this was my biggest problem with baking at home, it'd be great with a family but there's two of us so it rarely results in getting to eat fresh, nice bread on the day.

Easier to pick up some small loaves/rolls from the bakery instead.

  • Herman brot. Or if you like fresh baked, the cape seed ones at Bakers delight.

Why: I like the ones with lots of seeds and things in them, you can eat it without putting anything on and they taste pretty good.

  • I have a legit addiction to Baker's Delight pipe loaf (which my local only sells intermittently), especially spread with jam and cream like a scone, and their sea salt large turkish bread dipped in garlic olive oil. I'll eat either plain too without a second thought.

Aldi Viva white bread. It is the softest bread ever made and goes nice and crispy with a light toast.

    • I'll have a look at this one next time I'm at ALDI - kiddos like white sliced bread for sandwiches.

For supermarket bread the only one I'd touch with a ten foot pole would be Bill's Organics: http://www.billsorganics.com.au/

Other brands available at selected delis & health food stores would be:
    Naturis https://www.naturis.com.au/
Pure Life for dense sprouted breads: https://purelifebakery.com.au/
Healthybake - although I'm a bit suspect of this brand.
Nonie's have really cornered the market in breads that cost upwards of $20. In their defense they make amazing gluten free sliced breads that look feel & taste like a normal supermarket bread loaf. This is not easy to accomplish. https://noniesfood.com.au/
A shout out to Brickfields for making a great sourdough product: https://www.brickfields.com.au/

      Thank-you for the comprehensive list!

The sprouted breads are divine & so filling + excellent toasted with smashed avo & scrambled eggs. We get the Essene & Spelt versions - they're my afternoon snack food & tide the kiddos over before dinner.

I've tried several from the Bill's & Naturis range but found them at bit bland on taste & dry.

I'll look out for Nonie's & Brickfield's at our local markets. I'm think I've at least sampled them previously but don't recall the taste.

Have you tried Irish Soda bread? That is also yummo

      • Have you tried Irish Soda bread? That is also yummo

Yes, I make my own. I forgot to add Bowan Island to the list. I used to buy their soda bread (really good). The bread I make isn't as good, but good enough for me as I get to decide the quality of the ingredients I use.

        • +1

Nice - freshly baked bread is the best.

Bowan Island is great too - their soughdough is our second fave & sells out quite quickly if I don't get to Harris Farm early enough.
