Courier Driver Drove into My Car and Drove off - Any Advice on What to Do?

Dear OB hive mind, an Aramex courier driver delivered a package to my neighbour and drove into my parked car with his van when leaving.

He did not stop and simply drove off after causing damage to the car. I did not get the licence plate but know the package tracking details which the company can use to identify the driver. The damage is minor (broken taillight, bumper scratches). Last time someone drove into my car I followed up with insurance they did nothing and I had to pay excess. The police did not care either. I contact the courier company and am waiting to hear back. I am expecting no response.

Any advice how I can pursue this to get some semblance of justice? Thanks!

Do you have any visual proof of this incident occuring? From a car's dashcam or home CCTV camera etc? That may help your case considerably.

    • Sadly not, just eyewitness (me). It is likely this as*hole will just get away with it I suppose

  • Since you don't have registration or driver's information. You better fix yourself since it's minor.

All part of the Aramex service… no extra charge, you're welcome.

  • Send an email to Aramex asking for their dascam footage and their insurer's details. Mention APP 12 in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988 which entitles you to access to your own personal information (i.e. footage of your car). Also mention that if it is not provided then you will be making a complaint to the OAIC Privacy Commissioner.

Also get a quote for the repair from a body shop and say that you are agreeable to withdraw your request upon payment to the value of the quote.

If still unpaid then you should be able to pursue a legal process for small claims or minor debts. But even if you threaten that hopefully they will just pay before you have to go that far.
