Smartwatch for Young Kid

My 7-year-old daughter who is in year 2 wants a 'smart' watch. According to her, something that counts steps, has a few games, buttons and can customize with her name on it. She sees her friends with various smartwatches and fit bits and wants one too.

I have looked at a few off Xiaomi, Amazon, AliExpress and Temu. Are there any that people would recommend? She doesn't have a smartphone, but it can sync with dad/mum's phone or wifi if that's required for any features. Thanks!

  • Garmin Viofit 3 is decent. I got my daughters from GGC for $99 a few weeks ago (the 4 just came out)

    • Which games can you play on it?

How many steps can you do in one day
        What’s the time Mr Wolf

But you can connect to a phone via Bluetooth, and play some games, and you can get coins to unlock avatars and that. My kid loves that crap

For real? Tell her to earn some money and get it herself

The Amazfit band is pretty cheap, less than $60 bucks. Alternative to this is the Xiaomi Mi band series and the Huawei Band 7. All of these have very similar specifications and functions.

Note that most smartwatches that cost less than $100 range usually aren't considered true smartwatches (more accurate term for those are activity trackers). Typically they run a proprietary RTOS (real time operating system) and usually you can't load 3rd party apps onto the watch, so their functionality is limited to fitness, telling time and fetching you app notifications.

The cheapest true smartwatch you can get is the PineTime for $26,99 + $10 USD Shipping, but it's not exactly a good looking watch and it is probably too big for a 7 year old's wrist.

JB Hifi also has a section dedicated to kids activity trackers which usually will have a few gimmicks (like timed activities and fitness goals) that will keep kids entertained (probably for a few days)

Just be careful that devices like the SpaceTalk require monthly memberships etc

Yup. And after a while you might as well have gotten an Apple Watch.

  • Check out the Vtech kidizoom v3. Costco sells it for around $80 and it has downloadable apps, watches and games, torch and two cameras.

My kid loves it and so far the battery life is ok.

The older v2 is sold at a bunch of places and online, but is inferior to the v3.
