7-Eleven - How to Get G09 (Banned/Suspended) Error Resolved?

Hi. Not sure if anyone has been banned/suspended by 7-Eleven erroneously and was successful in getting unbanned by contacting them?

It would appear I now have a G09 error when I try to log in.

I didn't use "chopper" or anything like it. I flew to Sydney on Saturday for a weekend getaway. I checked fuel prices around 10 times as I was traveling around in Sydney. Didn't lock in anything as the prices were pretty much the same as Melbourne. When I returned to Melbourne on Sunday, I did a price check and locked in a price near the airport.

The next day, I could no longer log into my app. Error G09 - which I have now learnt is a ban. I can't see how it could be for anything else…. but then again, to get banned for legitimately checking fuel prices is quite shocking!

I've written to the customer care centre with my boarding passes MEL-SYD (and return) attached. But haven't heard anything yet.

Surely surely it's ok to check prices in app if I was physically there??? To cop a ban like this seems extremely consumer unfriendly. This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth even if they restore my account access….

Use another fuel outlet. Their loss

    • +3

I would, except 7-Elevens are the most convenient for me with my driving routes and it's a good way to keep my Velocity account active so I don't accidentally lose my Velocity points.

I just can't believe their algorithm can't differentiate between a genuine weekend plane trip and someone randomly "choppering" in using location spoofing.

    They don't care…

    Don't take it personally though…
Next time, make sure you follow the T&Cs….

    • +2

Sounds like OP did follow the T&C’s.

      • I checked fuel prices around 10 times

Unless they've made changes to the app recently, I've never been able to do 10 price checks.
It was limited to a few a day…

        • +1

Over the course of 2 days, I estimate I checked prices around 10 times. It could have been 8, it could have been 12. I wasn't being exact.

          • @Jinster:

Over the course of 2 days, I estimate I checked prices around 10 times

I doubt that is possible, unless they've made changes to the app recently.

@jv: Look. You seem to want to convince me I did something dramatically wrong. I didn't.

I checked prices around 10 times over 2 days because I was traveling all over Sydney seeing friends etc. I don't remember the exact number of times. If 7-Eleven bans users for this by defining this as abuse…. well, I guess that's a terrible strategy we the individual users are powerless to correct.

I would have thought "abuse" would be someone running their own fuel-price comparison app and pinging the 7-eleven servers hundreds of times a day as a result. Also, wouldn't reaching the limit simply result in the app saying something like "you've reached limited. try later"?

@Jinster: Should have just used the NSW government fuel check app. All servos HAVE to update their prices, and are penalised if they don’t.

Should be australia wide imho. But you can check the price of fuel at any servo in nsw as many times as you want!

              what's the number?

              • @capslock janitor: . "an arithmetical value, expressed by a word, symbol, or figure, representing a particular quantity and used in counting and making calculations."

    • What do you mean? I didn't violate the T&Cs. I physically flew in to Sydney for two days for a weekend getaway. Checked prices while I was there. Then flew back to Melbourne. I am talking about actual flying here. Not software location spoofing.

I didn't rent a car in Sydney but I easily could have. And then I could have used the app to find the best petrol prices to fill up the rental car. How would that be a violation of the T&Cs?

      • -5

        I didn't violate the T&Cs

        Says you…

        • Well, yes. I don't care to post my boarding passes here to prove to you. But I have sent them to that 24-7eleven email.

          • -3

@Jinster: They ban people who violate the T&Cs.

They don't do it just for the fun of it…

            • @jv: Sure. But I am saying it is quite clear to me that there is a problem with the algorithm they use to detect these violations.

              • @Jinster: OP, I hope you have realised by now JV is our resident OzBargain troll. ;-)

                • @DoctorCalculon: Upon clicking his profile and seeing how many posts the man/woman has posted… OMG…..

Just create a new account. Quicker and easier. You can still scan your Velocity number manually. Nothing to be lost really.

    • +1

That's a good idea. New account. No linking Velocity. Manual scan.

Ok. That's the baseline then. Worst case scenario.

    • +2

Right?? Who cares. New login, boom, you’re done.

    • +1

If you are using a chopper and they G09 banned you, I think 7-11 app bans the device, so when you do create a new account and lock using that said device and chopper again, the new account will automatically be banned within days. Happening to me now.

  • Main thread here. No one has successfully unbanned an account as far as I’m aware.

    • Aren’t people normally banned for using choppers though?

If OP contacts 7-11 and provides proof they were travelling surely they could get unbanned?

    • Guess I am the first. Still a very sour taste in my mouth. During the account down time I have been filling up with Coles and getting bonus Flybuys instead. Might continue to do so if bonus Flybuys offers keep coming.

  • +3

You don't need to drive to check fuel prices on the 7/11 app, use https://petrolspy.com.au which is community based who submit prices while they drive.

  • Odd. I used to travel down to Melbourne regularly and lock in whilst I was there.

    • Did you check the prices 10 times in a day or two though?

  • +1

I checked fuel prices around 10 times as I was traveling around in Sydney.

If I read that correctly, you checked fuel prices by using the 7-Eleven app's Our Best Local Price feature whenever you were out and about? If so, that seems to be an inefficient way of doing that, especially since this feature only compares the five 7-Eleven service stations closest to you, plus 7-Eleven say they limit the number of times you can use that feature (as you know by now).

Here is a thought for next time: it is probably easier to go to the NSW FuelCheck website/app and use that to search for service stations at any location within NSW (and ACT, excluding two Ampol franchise locations that do not participate in FuelCheck) at any time. You can also filter based on fuel type and service station brand, so if you zoom out enough on the map on the website/app and use the appropriate filter settings, you can quickly see which 7-Eleven is cheapest across Sydney, Wollongong, Newcastle, Canberra, Bathurst and surrounding regions.

I just did a check for Sydney and can see 7-Eleven Haberfield is currently selling the cheapest U91 in Sydney at $1.687/L.

The Project Zero Three website is great if you want to know the three cheapest 7-Eleven service stations in NSW. However, if all three of those service stations are nowhere near your actual location at the time you check, that would not be really helpful in terms of gauging prices in a given area, especially if you want to run the 7-Eleven app without resorting to a chopper. (I know you are happy to use the chopper, which would render the FuelCheck method above useless. However, I get the sense the OP is not a keen chopper user, hence the slightly clunkier FuelCheck method.)

    • I managed to lock that in yesterday when I was in the city, didn't realise that station had low prices.

    • I don't live in NSW so I didn't know about this feature/app. In VIC we have no such thing. petrolspy and the like are user updated and often way lagging in price updates.

I still think checking 10 times in 2 days shouldn't be considered abuse but whatever. If 7-Evelen don't respond, I will just have to get a new account manually scan Velocity I guess.

So despite my Velocity number being attached to a now banned 7-Eleven account, if I manually scanned Velocity after using a new 7-Eleven account, points would still be awarded?

      • In VIC we have no such thing.

Yep, VIC and ACT are the only two jurisdictions in Australia where there is no mandatory fuel pricing scheme. All other states and territories have them, and I believe those schemes are actually the data source for PetrolSpy.

I still think checking 10 times in 2 days shouldn't be considered abuse but whatever.

I would tend to agree with you, but unfortunately my opinion does not matter, because I am not 7-Eleven! You are bound by what 7-Eleven thinks is “abuse of their service”.

So despite my Velocity number being attached to a now banned 7-Eleven account, if I manually scanned Velocity after using a new 7-Eleven account, points would still be awarded?

I am the wrong person to ask. I live in a part of Australia where there is no fuel cycle at all, and I can always purchase fuel cheaper at EG Ampol than if I went to 7-Eleven (even when using a chopper).

      • You can also check out the Arevo app. It's by RACV and it has fuel prices, but I've noticed not all servos will have prices (mainly BP).

Not sure who updates the prices on Arevo, but it does say how long ago the prices were updated.

  • Good luck! I've found 7-Eleven customer service to be pretty good when I've had to contact them about issues.

    • +1

FWIW, 7-Eleven contacted me and said the block has been released after reviewing my account.

      Not a positive experience overall.

This has motivated me to move in other directions.

      • What did they say about it?

        • +6

          A very dead pan:

Thank you for contacting 7-Eleven Customer Service.
We have reviewed your My 7-Eleven App account and confirm the block that was on your account has now been released. To continue to use your My 7-Eleven App simply log in.

No explanations. No apologies. Like they are the royal family. And I am begging them to give them my money.

    • I've found 7-Eleven customer service to be pretty good when I've had to contact them

      Related to fuel lock?

      • Not for fuel lock, only for price errors and dodgy staff.

  • I got g09. Didn't chopper. Priced checked fuel 3 times in same day and on 3rd time locked it.

Alternate fuel provider cheaper so fuelled there but on logging in today g09.

    7eleven can eat 💩

    • I have the same G09 with all accounts on both iOS and Android since this morning

      • +1

Same. G09 with all accounts. Wasn't sure if it was a device level ban possibly.

  • Got logged out today and when I tried to log back in, it shows Error G09 and therefore I am here.

    Nonsense

  • Can confirm I have also been banned. Time to say goodbye to the chopper :((

  • Got logged out today and when I tried to log back in, it showed Error G09. tried changing password nothing seems working.

  • any work arounds ???

  • Step 1: Create a new account
Step 2: Fuel lock and use it (sooner the better)
Step 3: Follow instructions from Step 1

    • +1

I think they are starting to ban devices, and whatever account you lock in with the banned device, the new account will automatically be banned (within days) even without using it at a petrol station.

      • Hardware ban you reckon or IP?

        • Hardware I think

          • @Charles89: Damn, I got banned recently and made a new account on the same phone. Let's see how long it'll last.

            • @itsmoe: You can try to re-assign a new device ID if you are using android, that may help.

              • @Charles89: Nah I have an old iPhone that use. I found easier to spoof location on iPhone. My primary phone is Android but ceebs unlocking and rooting.

  • +1

Also got the Error G09. So disappointing - 7/11 has the two closest stores to me.

Have spent lots of money in store over the journey, and whilst I have been a chopper pilot, it’s once per month (maximum) as I don’t drive a lot. Both my accounts are banned (always had one as a back up) so it must be the device.

Hoping to get it reversed…I’m happy to give you my money, 7-11!

Why are people checking prices constantly? There's a website that tells you the cheapest price in the country….. It's a bot that feeds the info. I go to WA sometimes, sometimes, NSW, or VIC. but I do it once, lock in and log out. I don't check 20 times a day lol. never been banned.
