OLED TV 77inch + Recommendations

Hi Ozbargain family.

I'm looking to purchase a new TV to wall mount. The size that I am after is 77inch or larger, as the distance to the tv would be around 3.5-4m away. I would like to take my money as far as possible, so I'm after something that is of good value. That being said, I am happy to pay more for quality and less headaches.

Please note the TV will be predominantly used for streaming TV shows and movies. I have also purchased a sonos arc and gen 3 sub to pair with the TV

I have listed some current tv's that I have my eyes set on. I also have LG VIP price for 10% off but not sure if that will stack with the 20% coupon I obtained from the knock and win event.
- LG G3 77INCH
- LG C3 83INCH
- LG C3 77INCH
- LG B3 77INCH
- SONY A80K 77INCH - currently 4888 at sony with cashrewards fluctuating
- SONY A90J 83INCH - another ozbargain member was able to get this around 5700 mark through calling sony? this would also stack with cashrewards I presume?
- Samsung QN90B 85inch - 3500

Looking forward to everyone's recommendations and opinions.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-type/oled is the go-to place to read reviews and comparisons, then decide what features are most important to you personally.

    • Just be aware that sometimes in Australia we get the same model TVs that aren't actually the same panels and aren't as good as the US version

      • How would one find out what panels we get as opposed to the US?

  • You should also check 77" S95C OLED 4K Smart TV , I was going to get the g3, but got Samsung almost 2k cheaper, I say is on par with g3, if your room is bright the g3 or Samsung will outperform the lower models , I have a c2 lg as well Samsung is a visibly better picture. Do a quick video search on you tube s95c vs g3, lots of info there. If you going to outlay that cash get it calibrated will cost around 500 worth it for a top end oled

    • Hey Lightstar,

Thank you for your recommendations. I am a bit hesitant regarding samsungs due to hearing lots of negative feedback regarding their OS and sonos compatibility issues. In regards to the s95C, wouldn’t the S90C be the smart purchase of the two?

      • I can't comment on the Sony and LG line-up but I don't think there's any compatibility issue on the Samsung speaking from my experience.

You can get a voucher at Samsung. At $5100 the S95C is pretty solid and is arguably the best OLED tv https://www.samsung.com/au/tvs/oled-tv/s95c-77-inch-oled-4k-…
        S90C doesn't have the 77" option available

QN90B has the QLED panel and is pretty much different from the other panels. If you decide to go for the QLED panel then there are more options with much cheaper price

        • Hi Elquines,

          Thank you for your input.

QN90B is indeed qled but i am able to get the 85inch for 3500 due to internal connections.

I’ll have to look into the s95C more deeply now that you have recommended it as well.

Definitely wouldn’t put the S95C in a bright room as the QD OLED panels turn grey under direct light as they don’t have a polarising layer

  • Samsung will also sit like a frame on wall as it doesn’t have the bulked section of the lg, is so close I can’t put a finger between it and wall, comes with a 1 connect box so if you need to add a hdmi or other device you won’t have to lift it off the wall. , but if the leg deal is good , go with that.

    • Hi lightstar,

Im afraid because its so thin there is horror stories regarding samsung bending which is less prevalent in the g seties.

  • I just bought the same arc and sub setup, working just fine. Took 2 minutes to set up You’ll be happy be it her way. The lg is is slightly better, but the one connect is awesome, it meant I didn’t need to chase a power cord and multiple hdmi outlets through a wall. Note with arc , truplay it it actually improved sound significantly.

  • Re 90c vs 95 c I did a side by side in jb hifi, the 95 looks better and is way less reflective. But it’s 1k extra . Good luck

  • I bought the LG C1 a couple of years ago. Went down the rabbit hole debating LG vs Sony. If I remember correctly Sony had better software, for image processing and upscaling, but LG was better for gaming and overall viewing pleasure?

Went with LG and haven't looked back. I'm blown away regularly by the colours and vibrance in movies.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either tv you're interested in.

  • LG C3 83INCH - bigger is better, Dolby Vision, inky blacks, LG VIP 10%, LG 20%. This question was too easy.

    • Really afraid of the bent panels with the oleds. I hear the G series are pretty well built and more resistant to bending so leaning towards that at the moment.

      • Thanks, never heard of bent LG panels until now. Mine is dead straight and I would have thought the base at the rear would have prevented the screen from bending. I have to wonder how many bent panels were caused by the installer lifting it out of the box and onto the stand/wall hang. The screen is thin for its size.

  • LG G3 77INCH

The G series is best for wall-mounting. I have the G1 77 and still going good.

    Hi everyone,

I ended up purchasing a 65inch LG G2 at JB Hi-Fi instead after observing it person. I saw the A80K in person and it didn't seem to stand out to me as the G2. I understand larger is better but the price point and value of the G2 with the current JB perks made it seem like a more appropriate choice to myself. Like any technology, I believe TV's will continue to improve year after year and perhaps by then the larger sized OLED's will come to a more reasonable price.

    • Congrats on your purchase!
