  • remarkable product and well worth the price paid for

    • Why would this be well worth 5 times more than a comparable size cast iron?

      • It's debatable.

But pans like these have all the benefits of cast iron at half/one-third the weight.

Far easier to clean as well.

These are what many chefs use for decades.

They are made in Aus too which is worth supporting.

Having said that $500 for a free pan is a bizarre deal.

      • for me it's really the weight difference which made me purchase the aus-ion pans. i was taken aback by how heavy the traditional cast irons are. but these are actually not too bad

        • I see. I was more focused on the 'well worth' (the to-me grossly, ludicrously inflated) 'price' part of the comment.

I own two from Kickstarter days it’s good but grossly overpriced, my go to pan is a lodge

    • Yep I have 3, 2 from the Kickstarter campaigns. Since then they are way too expensive. I recently got a De Buyer Mineral B pan and it’s just as good quality as the Solidteknics Aus-ion pans but it cost me something like $70, and made in France.

I do have an old school Solidteknics cast iron pan (maybe 26cm?) before they stopped making them and it’s my favourite pan. It’s heavy and the handle is rounded nicely so it’s not cutting your hands. Shame they switched to the Aus-ion 3mm steel stuff.

These are great, but buying them at full price is a crazy thing to do. I bought mine on special, and as a bulk buy, so a decent discount.

I use them every day (literally), and they're great, but the RRP is ludicrous.

  • I've had two of these pans, one from kickstarter and one recently.
Both have warped and are unuseable except for one small spot now.
Switched the DeBuyers from the last ozb deal and have not had an issue since. Far easier to season and overall a nicer pan, just a bit heavier. I hear Matfer is equally as good, so another alternative.
Can't recommend solidteknics and certainly not at this wierd effectively 20% off deal.

    • Interesting. We have several of these pans and even let the kids use them regularly to cook and have not had an issue.

    • Given their lifetime warranty, what did they say when you contacted them?

      • In my case, I didn't contact them regarding my warped pan as:

Induction warping and thermal shock is not covered under our warranty.

        Also more generally:

        What's not covered?

Warping. All of our pans have a carefully engineered concave to compensate for movement when heated. You can read more about this here. Warping can only be caused by incorrect use, such as exposing a cold pan to high, rapid heat (such as induction) or not correctly matching the size of the pan to the element (ie a large pan on a small element, causing uneven movement in just the centre of the base). If you think your pans has warped, please email our team: [email protected]

I assume they are inviting emails only to potentially reassure people that their warping may actually be just the factory concave shaping, if that is indeed the case.

I can't find it right now but I do remember them also saying that there were about 3 instances (ever) of some warping related manufacturing defects and that was very early on.

It was an absolute fight to get them to replace the first pan. Back and forward for weeks with photos and videos of the warping.
I had to post it to them for further testing.
The only reason i think it was replaced is because they lost the pan once it was delivered to them. (thankfully i was able to show it was signed for by them)

bargainpersona below is right. Their warranty doesn't cover warping, which given my experience, is easy enough to do.

    • you don't want to buy the cheaper lightning version which is 2.5mm, it is lighter but easier to warp
always get the 3mm thicker version carbon steel, it is heavier, but heavier translates to better quality when it comes to cookware

currently own a 26cm aus-ion pan, a good solid one-piece pan, but the price is on the high end
I also own French de buyer mineral B pro and lodge cast iron, Solidteknics is the most expensive out of them all
good choice if you want Aussie-made one-piece carbon steel or stainless steel cookware
However I am not a fan of some of their business practices
I am been eyeing their trio workhorse set, which is usually 499 on the website, they jacked up the price to 549 yesterday….
Not happy to pay the extra $50, so no deal

  • Expensive, but a very good product.
We have few Solidteknics and DeBuyer mineral B pans. No problems with either after several years of use and abuse.

  • Great marketing but absurd price. From the same fellow who created the marketing-heavy Furi brand of ‘’’’’japanese steel’’’’’ knives.
No difference in practice to the cheaper Matfer, de Buyer, or Darto alternatives.

    • Yes, those Furi knives were ATROCIOUS. I see their current knives also follow their usual pricing structure, and for the money you can easily buy some seriously good knives instead, but these are just aimed at the rusted-on fanbois, for sure.

Have the solidteknics cast iron pan and massive campfire pot thing (this was actually their first product), carbon steel and lightning pans. I even have both the woks. Also have a lodge, but had too many by the time the de buyer deal came about.

Use on induction and never had any issues. Even using wrong “burner” sizes and to the point where the cooktop complained about overheating. No warping or anything. Definitely multi generational.

Frypans perform as expected with no complaints, though I’m not sure they would really be any better than a de buyer or other decent carbon steel pan. “One piece” is a gimmick - How many rivets have really failed?

The large wok is absolute garbage, because it has a flat bottom making it a cut off cone shape. You need a rounded bottom on a wok… so lesson here is don’t buy woks from white dudes. same goes for the “Japanese” furi knifes mentioned above. The smaller wok is pretty decent but a bit thin.

Honestly they have gone a bit crazy trying to release all sorts of random ill thought out products, trying to replicate the success of their original greats. I guess they found out that if you make a great product that lasts lifetimes you have limited repeat business.

Lodge was a little bit of a disappointment. Not sure if it’s because it’s convex and eggs run to the side, or because it’s on the thin side and doesn’t tend to hold the heat as evenly (it is a large pan so that probably doesn’t help).

    • lesson here is don’t buy woks from white dudes. same goes for the “Japanese” furi knifes mentioned above.

😂 Very true. My wok came from an Asian shop next to Queen Vic market, somewhere around 10-15 years ago. It’s large, rounded bottom and has a timber handle. I really love it and use it all the time with a steel rounded scraper. It’s all black and I only ever clean it with hot water. Rarely rusts. But works only with gas; We got an induction cooktop installed last week so no more using it. I’m looking at an outdoor high BTU wok burner (Auscrown) instead because I couldn’t live with a flat bottom wok. I’m not Asian so my attempt at Chinese or Thai food just isn’t in the same league as others, but maybe this’ll upgrade me a little.
Just bought an induction Moka pot.

  • This is a very weird "bargain".
