Anyone Know Where to Get Castile Soap?

Just curious if anyone knows of any physical shops selling Castile soap (like Dr Bronner's) at a reasonable price (not $10 for 100mL or something ridiculous)?

It seems to be very popular in US but having trouble finding it on online catalogues here. Have you seen it around the shops?

Also open to alternative surfactants that sell cheaply

(looking for something that can do laundry + dishes + allpurpose cleaning, nontoxic, sulphate-free, natural, environmentally-friendly, easy refills)

Thanks

update: it seems health food stores stock them.

  • In Brisbane it's available from The Source Bulk Foods. 500ml is $16, or $1.90 per 100ml if you want bulk.

  • Amazon has some larger bottles of Dr Bronner's for a reasonable price. Do you find castile soap is as effective as commercial laundry detergent for everyday washing?

    • I haven't tried them yet but I've heard that for most laundry, commercial detergents are just unnecessary and they have a lot of chemicals in them that are toxic and carcinogenic, so I'm looking for milder nontoxic alternatives. Castile soap and glucosides have been recommended, along with a vinegar rinse.

      • Interesting. You mix the Castile soap with glucosides? Where do you buy glucosides?

        • No, either castile soap or a glucoside (decyl, coco), not both. I have only found glucosides online.

    • not sure where you're getting your information from, I am guessing social media "influencers" if you think there are actual carcinogens in commercial dishwashing detergent. Best to check the science and motivations behind some of those claims.

  • RY has decent prices on the larger quantities, using code EOFYSALE or NEWBIE for 20% and buy min$30 for free shipping
For 946ml bottle, would end up being $31.96 landed price. (would work out to $3.38 for 100ml)

They have a store in Brisbane I think, not sure if you can get the same discounts you get online though.

thewellstore.com.au sometimes is pretty good sales on Dr Bronner products. They also do have a physical store in Sydney. But never been.

Could also email the guys at drbronner.com.au I've talked to them before and they seem friendly. Ask them who sells it in bulk round where you live (that's where the best prices will be).

  • +2

Bronners castile soap can be diluted before use. It lasts much longer & is just as effective I've found. Even though it is expensive compared to what's available in the major supermarkets, it is a better product & worth it. Any of the major chain health stores will have it.

  • Dr Bronner's @ Amazon $2.89/100ml
Flying soap around the world would be also be fairly toxic, albeit not in your kitchen, just the atmosphere in general. If you’re worried about that sort of thing.
