Google Is Asking for Valid Id. Is It Legit?

Hi, I have been using Gmail since 2005 and 11 months ago, I changed my account to turkey. Recently I have cancelled my credit card that I used to pay and got a new one and added that but Google is not allowing me to pay. Every payment failed and it sent me this :

Have you experienced it? should I give my id and bank statement?

Comments

  • Sounds like a scam. That's a huge amount of personal ID to send via email.

Still, I guess they thought that you lived in Turkey and you have now been caught out. Maybe use a disposable account next time you need to pretend to live in Turkey?

Once they discover you don't there's no guarantee they'll reactivate anyhow.

"Please complete this form using the email address where you received this notice."
"We'll try to review your documentation and reply within 24 hours."
"A document, such as a bank statement or utility bill, showing your name and address."

    100% scam

Google will never ask you for your utility bill to verify someone. They are trying to get 100 points of ID to steal your identity.

Also you received an e-mail, what is the Google email address? Most likely it's not an official e-mail address from Google. If you would like to copy and paste their e-mail here, we can tell you if it's def. a scam.

"should i give my id and bank statement?"

    NO

  • Paypal does stuff like this not google.

Google account can be used for payments so would have to have aml features enabled , changes OP has made could easily trigger an aml check , the question is , was the correspondence genuinely from Google.

    • +1

Google does do this, a friend is going through it currently with their business account and no they're not being scammed, it's all within the google account, not email or some third party site.

What's the link of the page they send you to input your ID?

  • do nothing and see what happens
input fake id details and see what happens
input real id details and see what happens
    IANAL

do nothing and see what happens

This is the obvious check to see whether its genuine or a scam. If its genuine your google services will stop. If its a scam they won't.

  • +3

Scam, if google needed to verify its you, it would appear when you login. Report the email and then move on

  • +2

Google will do that with people that stuff round with VPNs :/ It's just one of the risks you take to save a few bucks ;)

But as above, verify all the links and info (sent email address, url of input page, current impact on account - ie if account still works, ignore the message, etc etc)

    • All those YouTube premium hack deals with inflated upvotes seem unnecessary.

  • It sounds like a scam. If it was legit they would probably send you to an Australia post outlet to give them the details to send to Google.

  • Some reasons Google might ask you to verify include:

Google saw a suspicious transaction in your payments center.
Google need to verify the information associated with the account.
Google need a little more information to comply with EU law (for European customers only).

Note: If Google ask you to verify your account, any pending transactions will be canceled. Pending charges on your bank statement will disappear within 14 business days.

  • It's legitimate. I had the same, and just needed to upload a form of ID via Google's support webpage - https://support.google.com/googlepay/contact/account_verific…

  • I got the same email today for a google account paying for YT premium in Turkey. The link is definitely legit. I can see the notification in my google account:

    https://payments.google.com

There is a critical alert saying:

    Alerts
    Your profile is under review.
Your profile is under review. Your service is still active but some transactions may be limited. Please respond to any request for information.

I signed up with a secondary email address with fake name and Google specifically want government issued ID which I obviously do not have in Turkey so guess the jig is up for me.

This is the link for those interested

Anyone ignored it and still able to make Turkey YT premium payments?

  • @nataliaava how did it go? Did you end up providing the documents?

    • Yes my driver license and then they fixed the issue. Now all good

      • Did you have to prove you live in Turkey for the Turkey payment or anything?

        • @CodeXD did you update your details to your turkish account? Keen to know if you were also successful

          • @ryf: I haven't provided them anything, I used a different name on that google account haha

            • @CodeXD: oh well, looks like the party is over with Google One loopholes. Move to another country, have the same issue

              • @ryf: I'm considering changing the name to my real name and provide my driver license. It sounds like issue could be with name rather than location. OP said they provided it and now all good despite their account also being in Turkey.

                • @CodeXD: @CodeXD Have you tried it? If yes, did you do it before or after your payment profile is suspended? And did it go well?

                  • @dolphin savant: Nope haven't done it yet. I'll do it if YT premium payment fails. Next payment April 21st so decide then.

                    • @CodeXD: @CodeXD I provided my photo id with my Australian address, and it was rejected and I was provided to provide a government-issued ID with the Turkish address. So I closed the payment profile, and used my Australian payment profile to pay for Youtube Premium now.

                      • @dolphin savant: Thanks for the update. I'm currently on YT premium family for ~$5.50 not sure it is worth it to pay for same thing at $32.99.

                      • @dolphin savant: I ended up closing the Turkey payment profile and jumped on Pakistan Youtube Premium.

                        Works great now.

                        • @CodeXD: Are you still using the same payment method or did you have to change it? Did you have to do anything different to get the payment working again?

I'm getting the same error ("Your payment profile is currently suspended because some on your account couldn't be verified") regardless of which country I use. I wonder if they've linked it to my card….or maybe it's the VPN.

                          • @boomersgold: With youtube premium Pakistan you don't need a Google payment account, you put your card details directly into YouTube. I am using the same card to pay, 28 degrees, and did everything via YouTube.

The guide is very easy to follow.
