Suggestions for Table Games Like Table Tennis, Pool, etc

Our new house has an extra living room. We are thinking how best to use it? We thought about a pool table, but I am not much into it. And the ceiling isn't high enough for table tennis. Looking for suggestions for a similar table games that can make the room look occupied and nice and add some gaming options for my 8-year-old.

    Foosball table (table soccer)

Used to have a billiards & foosball table once upon a time, it'll get bored of and disused after 3 days.

May consider turning it into a cinema/theatre room with big screen, audio setup, comfy couches and can become a movie/gaming den.

Alternatively, maybe a piano or drum-kit if any of you are more musically inclined.

    • Nice. But the room ceiling is about 2.4m only. Won't get the effect.

What about a Wii. Probably still a lot more fun than a foosball table.

pool table if you aren't poor.

table tennis table if you are poor.

    • Hahaha. I would like to think I am not poor.

      • you are welcome, my job is done. enjoy your new pool table.

"And the ceiling isn't high enough for table tennis."
how? the ball hardly goes above neck level
we have one of the bigW two piece table tennis tables that rests on top of pub size pool table (removed the legs). we use the anti slip sheeting at the six pockets and it works well. 3 minutes to take off, 5 minutes to put back on. it means the table tennis is a coupe of inches too high for regulation but not awkward to use at all
    .

    • Well you haven't seen me play. The ball goes above the neck level even after bouncing 😁
      That's a pretty good idea.

For an 8 year old Table Tennis is likely to be stretching their capabilities unless they're gifted with sporting ability.
I find Fusball too difficult as an adult… YMMV

    Best options I can think of are;
Pool table just rolling the white ball by hand (too much coordination and physical height required to use a cue, certainly the case with my similar age kids anyway)
Air Hockey - definitely achievable, therefore fun and therefore likely to be used and seems to be a unique suggestion so far.

    Get a Vewlix/Chewlix arcade cabinet.

I second the air hockey suggestion. Great fun. Arcade cabinet is a good idea too.

Your kid is young enough that whatever you have (pool/table tennis/foosball) will become a past time and they will be better than most of their friends quickly. More importantly, think about what you would like to play with your kid. The thing you are more into will give you two more quality time together.

I would recommend table tennis as it is something you can get good at together and can easily have other functions (e.g beer pong).
