    Power Consumption (Max): 350 Watts

    • 350 watts :O

      • +2

My samsung 5 series plasma, which is 1 or 2 generation before this one…have a rated power consumption of cough 1000W….

        • lol that would replace my heater

  • -6

thought it would be under $500 by now

  • Awesome TV, although the new one has the Smart TV features. Great buy if your just after a panel

    • +1

Whats the new model #? What features does it include? Any idea of the price premium for that one?

      • As described by the OP "Newer model PS51E550 can be found in Big Brown Box for $787 new plus delivery." Thought that was reasonably obvious

  • +1

THE PRODUCT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR HAS CURRENTLY SOLD OUT.

  • Comes with a free heater by the look of things

"and Plasma" Are you trying to say plasma is bad? Best tv on the market atm is the Panasonic ST50A & VT50A range, which is Plasma. Samsung isn't as good but still a good tv.

    • +1

Nope, just stereotyping that the society thinks that LED is better. Personally, I prefer factory second products and plasma tv but others may not. Hence, the word of caution.

Be aware that the European community are talking about banning Plasma sales in Europe.

They run hot, use enormous amounts of expensive electricity [enough to make your eyes water].

Pioneer in japan have stopped making plasma screens.

Australia may become/has become a dumping ground for these screens.

LCD/LED will last longer than the plasma.

    • +4

Mate how long ago did you read that article?? Seriously?
Pioneer stopped making TVs altogether years ago, wasn't just plasmas
I have a new Viera 50" which use the same power as a LCD equivalent.

    • IIRC Pioneer got out of it by transferring its patents and tech to Panasonic…that's definitely a good thing though. The Kuro was one of the better plasmas back in the day.

      • +1

More like beware: Panasonic cant make enough plasma TV's to cover demand and there is a back order already of 7000 for Australia.

      • Kuro still is good :p

    • +2

Been sucking on the LED juice too much. Given the price of this compared to a 51" LCD. You'll end up replacing the TV long before the power consumption will even out the total price.

      • That was exactly my theory why I got a plasma tv. I didn't see there is something called "Carbon Tax" or "Old Plasma TV Tax" was coming!

  • Why buy this when you can get a current model Panasonic FullHD Plasma for $810 at eljo?

    • Not saying I disagree, but $235 is a fair difference, especially when it's like 40% more than the price of the TV in question!

    My pana plasma is awesome

Thanx exeugene! - time for us to finally ditch the old DLP LG 52" 1024x768 with no HDMI for this….I think its a safe upgrade!

I've got a bit of a bright room though, but heck, thats what blinds are for to stop the reflection on glass.

    • +1

Your welcome, glad that I could help =) Lucky for me this will be going to the bedroom and the missus hate sunlight! so no need to worry about reflection =D Btw I am assuming you might want to use it as a gaming monitor since you mention HDMI, apparently there is a trick to reduce the lag.

'The 51D550 exceeded our expectations with an exceptionally speedy 16ms, but we had to use the “PC” input label (accessed by pressing Source > HDMI1/DVI > Tools > Edit Name > PC) to achieve this speed. We’re also not sure if it will enable with all sources, although it did with our Xbox 360 Elite feeding the panel. (This also results in full uncompressed colour being displayed in the 4:4:4 format, for those of you who are both hardcore gamers and hardcore videophiles). Remember that this trick only works on
the HDMI1 input, so gamers should give their favourite system priority when connecting.'
