Wait till you learn about peanut BUTTER! - is the sort of reply you keep getting to that recurring comment of yours and never addressing.

More, your "advice" is as wrong as it's petty.

      Ingredients

Filtered water, Organic (Certified USFDA, NOP) Whole Soybeans (min. 14%), Tapioca Syrup, Sea Salt, Job’s Tear (Hato Mugi), Calcium Carbonate.

You'd get fined if you label it as a juice. Like these people.

        Don't eat it.

This product seems to be popular on OzBargain so I bought one to see what $4+ spent on 1L of soy milk buys me.

In case you're wondering the same, it tastes nearly identical to ALDI's $0.80 version, and it heats and froths about the same. Annoyingly, it has no resealable lid.

    Mystery solved.

    • +2

I would strongly contest that assertion - the alternative milks from Aldi all contain vanilla essence, making any drink you make taste like vanilla. Which sucks, unless you enjoy/are making vanilla lattes.

      • +3

Doesn't taste the same at all. This guy would not do well on a blind taste test :D

EDIT: Allow me to rephrase for the neggers…

In the specific context of making a milk-based coffee drink, I found both products to be comparable in flavour, texture and quality in a back to back taste test of the final drink.

On that basis, it's merely my opinion that the Aldi-branded variety represents better value. With that said, neither of these two brands are my first choice.

@chrisandrew: I didn't neg, but I like your eloquent counter response. Have a great day Chrisandrew.

          • +3

@chrisandrew: My wife is a Bonsoy Latte drinker. Since I do all the grocery shopping I've cheating her by buying various other value options and every damn time she could tell. For me it's not even up for debate that Bonsoy is superior as I've tried it myself along with the alternatives and there is definitely a difference to the taste and mouth feel of the coffee.

I absolutely hate paying above $4 for a litre so I usually buy up when they go on sale and the packaging could be more user friendly with a resealable cap.

            • @webmonkey: That's interesting. I wonder if Aldi gets seconds or something.

    • +1

I agree, but just wait and you'll get strong opposition to that.

Just don't get Aldi's organic as it doesn't have all the necessary additives that make it tasty and make it hold up when hit with a more acidic espresso shot. (Additives that Bonsoy has too).

      • +1

Yeah, I think it also has a lower health-star rating, if that matters to you.

    • +1

Couldn't disagree more. The Aldi standard soymilk is fine for cereal, but no good for coffee. The soy taste is stronger than the coffee in my opinion.
The Bonsoy doesn't leave much aftertaste at all.

Also, Aldi doesn't specify what vegetable oil it contains, which is annoying. Bonsoy doesn't include any added oil.

But nowadays I like Vitasoy nearly as much for coffee.

      • +1

Agree re: Vitasoy. I prefer oat over soy. But if I'm buying soy, I usually default to So Good Barista and Vitasoy Milky (whichever is discounted).

BTW, I wasn't trying to promote Aldi's soy so much as comment on Bonsoy representing poor value, in my view. I failed to mention the reason for that comparison: they're both sold on the same shelf at my local Aldi.

    • If youre not drinking dairy milk then this soy is the best in my opinion. Its way better than the cheap stuff.

  • What is so special about this Bonsoy almond milk that it costs twiceote than Vitasoy ?

    • It has renown, it's imported and somewhat outdated.

Other soy milks are as good and tasty as Bonsoy these days.

      • Is a key point of Bonsoy that it's a fermented soy milk too? Or is that an inherent trait of all soy milks.

        • +3

Where Bonsoy uses whole soybean, most soy milks use soy protein isolate.

        • No, it is not fermented. None of the popular soy milks are fermented.

      • What other soys? I've tried several and none are that I've had

    • Absolutely nothing, in my opinion. I would go as far as saying it is a poor choice at this price point. YMMV.

      • I'll admit I prefer happysoyboy

Note that this soy drink contains hatomugi.

      Don't you have a job?

      • No. Don't need one.

        • A more productive hobby then?

      • Don't you?

  • Almond is $4.80 now

  • +3

Amazon are just matching Coles as they have these prices in their latest promo.

  • 2.65% almonds.

    Ingredients
Filtered water, Tapioca Syrup, Roasted Almond Paste (2.65%), Sunflower oil, Sunflower lecithin, Sea salt, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking soda), Gellan Gum.

  • Almost a standard price with how often it's on "sale".

  • I don’t have Amazon Prime and have already had a free trial. Limit of 6, won’t postage kill it?

  • This soy milk tastes good. I stopped buying it though as I got sick of it spilling everywhere due to it not having a lid.

    • +3

If you pierce a second "breather" hole you will have a lot less trouble with spills and pouring in general.

We use a knife and pierce it where the dark circle is, opposite the side where you cut the main spout open.

I'm surprised these things (Bonsoy) don't come with proper opening instructions (or just a better design!).

      • +1

Thanks, I'll pick one up from Coles and give it a try.

      • +1

Been buying these for years and having the same issue, didn't even think of this solution this whole time. Feel like a moron.

        • I remembered we used to do it with the old Golden Circle juice tins. That's where I got the idea from.

          Probably from 70's/80's (yes, I'm old 😅)

Cow’s milk all the way, wouldn’t touch this thing with a 2 meter pole.
