It's hard to get a benchmark on decent value, with differing brands, tech, screen sizes etc…

…but is this really decent value? a 75" TCL screen for $2,480??

    • +2

Nothing wrong with a TCL screen. They're actually quite good…

    • +5

Yeah, it is a really solid tv. 2000 nits peak brightness, 144hz vrr, mini led, hdmi 2.1 and the list goes on.

    • You don't become one of the largest TV manufacturers in the world by selling junk. It's a solid TV with in built Google TV. I've got the X925 and it's one the best TVs I've owned

    • You realise TCL manufactures all high end LCD screens for Samsung and Sony right?

  • This or Samsung QN85C? If not taking into account the price difference. Really keen top know which one is better. Planning to pull the trigger today.

    • +1

The TCL appears to be pretty good price vs function… Recommended Best Value Award from hdtvtest

    • +2

I had the c835 and installed a qn85b. I would’ve picked the Samsung any day of the week colours were a lot better on the Samsung

  • Store in tile.

      I like tiles

          HELLOOOOOOOO

        Title XD

  • This or Sony X90K

      This

    • I've dropped a review link in a prior comment. Might prove useful.

      • +2

That review is for the outgoing model, c835. This is the brand new version c845. Similar TVs but this one gets significantly brighter and has other improvements in AI processing.

    • I viewed it in-store - the Sony has too much backlight screen bleed, making the black look greyer - such a shame as it's readily available to buy now, price is good, the sound is good, brand rep+

I think the MiniLed wins on HD quality display, and blacks contrast (maybe not so much on motion - football)
Sony wins on upscaling SD content (Free to Air TV etc) to look more HD-like and better motion but blacks are too average these days.

      Sony "Google TV" faster
TCL "Google TV" less fast (sluggish to respond at times)

  • Good price already, cheers for sharing. I have a hisense u9hau 75" on order (replacement as store could not fulfil c835) for around $1580. Worth cancelling and shelling the extra for this (potentially in 85 inch)? Haven't heard good things about the Hisense but I had no other options in the original price range.

The current plan is to just manage with the Hisense, and during next TV changeover in 2024 try to resell it and pick up 85" c845 for 2.5k (or less).

    • +3

yeah id have tcl over Hisense tbh the Aussie Hisense models don't get the same as overseas the tcl is extremely similar if not the same as overseas models

      • +1

Agreed. Hisense intentionally release gimped TV's specifically for the Australian market, not available anywhere else. Its a joke.

At least TCL give us the same TV's as they release in Europe.

    • A cardboard cutout of a TV is better than a Hisense. I hope that answers your question.

  • Only thing annoying with my is android tv. So slow and laggy.

    • Only thing annoying with my is android tv.

Same model? This is Google Chromecast TV not andriod TV.

  • Looks like C835 is gone from almost all stores.
Is it coming back to stock or is C845 the replacement now?

    • JB seem to have some stock of C835 for $1995 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-75-c835-4k-full-array…

    • +1

I doubt the c835 is coming back into stock. I ordered the 65 from jb on 30/5 and it was cancelled 2 days ago because their suppliers aren’t getting anymore. It looks like all the eofy deals are over now as well

      • I'm in exactly the same boat, even said to JB twice that I was happy to wait if they were certain new stock was coming in, but didn't want to find myself in the position of it being cancelled after all the good EOFY sales were gone, yet here I am.

        • +1

I used the live chat and managed to get the 75 inch c835 for the sales price including the 10% perks discount I would have had as well, so i got it for $1436.40. I said that had I known they’d cancel my order 27 days later id have just bought the 75”

Not sure on stock in your area but in SEQ there’s still some stock available and delivery is only a 2 day wait. Delivery is scheduled for next week, hopefully they don’t cancel that one too lol

          • @rowbit: Are you able to pm me your receipt or order number, they are saying they are unable to do it for me.

    • Yes it's the replacement new model, however, some stores are able to order the older version for less mostly with backorder delays unless they have stock

  • I can only imagine JB-Hifi, Appliancesonline.com.au, Harvey Norman, GGs and Joyce Mayne are holding-out bringing the 2023 model C8(4)5 on the floor until after July 1..(limited stores are holding stock) I think Bing Lee has it in stock.

  • +1

Will wait for a ~$1500 or similar deal some time next year

  • +2

Delivery outside of Brisbane is expensive, but I just got JB to do a price match via their online chat team, and delivery is only $59 with them.

  • C845 vs LG OLED for anyone curious. Just convert spanish subs to english.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0PwLjbrrEs

    • Crazy blooming on C845 at 1:58….That's why OLED is king in contrast.

      • Apparently its a bug in the Algorithm(or so he thinks). Certain dark scenes like that one have unusually brightened black levels. 99% of the time it's working as expected with great blacks.

        • -3

Algorithm or no algorithm, mini-LED can't compete with OLED in contrast. If you can notice that much blooming on a video, it will be much worse in person.

          • +3

            @dealhunter52:

If you can notice that much blooming on a video, it will be much worse in person.

Not really true at all. High camera exposure when filming a screen exacerbates blooming/bright lights ten fold. It's entirely dependant on how it's being filmed. You can manipulate it either way to make it seem worse or non existent. So to say its worse in person compared to a video is flat out incorrect since neither of us know how the camera is setup. Regardless, I'm just reiterating what the guy said, I never made any assumptions.

By the way I'm well aware of OLED's benefits and infinite contrast ratios. I've owned one since 2019 :)

            • @bert-lifts: Well, the fact is blooming on TCL is apparent and the guy filming it acknowledged it and attributed it to a bug in algorithm. I'm not sure about you but I won't be happy to pay top dollars for a product which has bugs, which might or might not get fixed.

          • @dealhunter52: As someone who has a C2 in a different room and has had this TV for a week, the difference is a lot smaller than you think

      • Looks like the exposure of the camera lifted dramatically in the scene as the background brightened a lot. Likely no way near that visible.

  • How is C735 compared to this?

    • +1

C835 or C845 are mini LED, so much better.

  • I’ve seen a lot of deals for the C8x5 models, but based on specs I assume the MiniLED-ness is significantly better on the C9x5 models. Can anyone comment on the difference? I “settled” with my last TV (LG Nano86 or something) and have regretted it ever since, so I don’t wanna make the same mistake again.

    • is significantly better on the C9x5 models.

      Not the same price range.

  • -2

TCL's miniled is poorman's OLED. LG OLED is still the better quality etc.. but you pay alot more. I own the 65C835 because, I am the poor Ozbargainer.haha

  • Getting my 65C845 as a TCL replacement for my 65C815 which is a lemon. Nothing but trouble since 12/20, 5 months after purchase. Hope this one is better although I was told I only get 6 months company warranty. ACL will probably extend that but really don’t want any issues at all for at least 4-5 years.

  • Little bit off subject I’m in process of setting up setting up a tcl c835 75 inch just finished making a unit for it.
I have a bit of old and new tech mix at present and yes will do for now might upgrade sound bars etc in future and yes it’s my first 4K tvs they might not be the best buys but good enough for me.
So for the main set up will be tcl c835 with a Yamaha 109 surround and a Panasonic ub820 4K player and kids switch. I do have another blu ray player even though I not use it I prefer to leave it in the mix.

I believe best way to set up the Yamaha bar with with arc and would 4K hdmi cable be best?
I will have my ub820 set up with a4k hdmi.
As for other blu ray player and switch standard hdmi cable will do.

Now as I’m new to this tcl tv will the settings need tweaking or just leave as is, I, not as clued up as some of you but will I see differences changing the setting and what’s the recommendations.

This is off subject at least I also got and already set up a Samsung b8000 65 inch for bedroom I have a Sony ht-mt 300 sound bar set up, yes bit dated like the Yamaha above as suited my needs back then and yes was not cheap back then when I got them and yes might not be best for these tvs.
With this tv I got the Sony x700 4K player again I have an older blu ray player I probably not use but I’m keeping it in there for now.
And a very old console my wife does not want to get rid of lol.

Again any setting to tweak this Panasonic tv?

On the Panasonic to be honest I not had time to view play around even try a actual 4K disc but I take there is a difference with watching an actual disc compared to streaming a 4K movie?
As I been busy setting building units and all other things and only in process of doing the tcl one not had chance to play around with both.
But while setting up I just want to be sure I’m using what best I have with right cables if makes sense.

  • Good review for the C845 - https://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&i…

Scored higher than the Sony X90L in their opinion.
